The increasing severity of water scarcity and resulting water conflicts in many parts of the country indicate a looming serious water crisis in the future. Water conservation and proper management are the needs of the hour for our future, as stated by former Union Minister and Member of Parliament Mr. Suresh Prabhu on Sunday.
Prabhu was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the "Postgraduate Diploma in Water Law, Policy, and Governance" program, jointly initiated by hashtag National Law University, Aurangabad, and the hashtag , Aurangabad. Secretary of the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Mrs. Debashree Mukherjee, participated online, while Executive Director of Godavari Development Corporation, Mr. Santosh Tirmannawar, and industrialist Mr. Ram Bhogale, along with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Lakshminath, Registrar Dr. Dhanaji Jadhav, course coordinator Mr. Raosaheb Bawaskar, university professors, students, and individuals associated with the water sector were present at the event.
Water issues are not just technical matters; water is a multifaceted subject. Therefore, water crises must be resolved in a multidimensional manner, as global climate change has fundamentally altered the interrelationships between water, agriculture, and the environment, impacting overall human life and the environment, Prabhu said. Understanding and thoroughly studying water law and water management is essential, and he congratulated the university for initiating this course on water law.
The event was anchored by Dr. Dr. Ashok Wadje Wadje and Avina Mishra. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Lakshminath gave the introductory address and welcomed the guests, while course coordinator Raosaheb Bawaskar outlined the course, and Registrar Dr. Dhanaji Jadhav expressed gratitude to the attendees.
