In the traditional (present) classroom setting, students listen, write and memorize Board prescribed syllabus content. Students are then tested on this content by annual written examinations but there is always scope for debate on the actual knowledge acquired by students and skills learnt to succeed in college and workplace.

Active Learning is a classroom environment where students engage in group activities and project-based learning to discover a topic for themselves as opposed to passively listening to an expert. Active Learning Curriculum emphasizes building 21st-century skills such as higher-order thinking, deeper understanding, communication, innovation, self-direction, and environmental awareness to name a few.

The Active Learning Program of Ek Kadam Aur Foundation started with a vision to redevelop the way curriculum is traditionally taught and in the process, transform teacher-centered learning to student-centered learning. The program focuses on training teachers concepts about Active Learning classroom strategies and testing their applicability to participating students.
