On 17th December 2025, the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, in collaboration with IQAC, organised a student seminar on “Print Media, Broadcasting Media and Media Laws and Ethics”. Throughout the seminar, students were able to express their opinions in an academic setting and discuss and analyse current issues related to media, communication and media laws.
The seminar programme started with the inaugural speech by Rosona Khatun, Coordinator of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, who emphasised reporting techniques, broadcasting systems, and media laws and ethical considerations. The programme was overseen by departmental faculty members Rosona Khatun and Moumita Sarkar. The Principal, Dr. Satabdi Biswas, delivered an encouraging message to motivate students in their future development and inspired them through a journalistic concept presented in this manner. The IQAC Coordinator, Dr. Antara Chowdhury, shared insights into media laws and their current context, how media personnel have contributed to societal growth, and the importance of radio and television as mass media. The Academic Convenor, Dr. Shree Chatterjee, provided valuable insights into the effects of media and communication on social and educational concepts. Other departmental faculty members present encouraged students to deliver their presentations at this seminar. Moumita Sarkar, faculty member of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, gave a warm vote of thanks and concluded the seminar.
In total, twenty-three students delivered presentations on various subjects. Nearly twenty-five students, along with all the faculty members and the departmental lab assistant, attended the seminar. Students spoke on topics including qualities and responsibilities of reporters, different types of columns, different types of leads, cyber laws in India, the difference between law and ethics, Fake News & Paid News, different types of advertising, the impact of advertising on society, qualities of a public relations officer (PRO), important tools of PR, various elements of scripts for radio and TV, recent trends in television broadcasting, the present status of radio in India, types of radio broadcasting (AM/FM), major TV networks in India and Kolkata, the importance of scripting, community radio, the evolution of radio in India, growth of television in India, and the impact and reach of radio. A stimulating question-and-answer session followed the presentations, encouraging students to share ideas and participate in critical discussions.
