Field-Based Learning Beyond the Classroom

The Department of Zoology of Asansol Girls' College successfully conducted an educational field study at Nehru Park for the students of 4th Semester (Major & Minor).

A total of 27 students, under the guidance of three faculty members, participated in this academic excursion as a mandatory component of their curriculum. Situated along the serene banks of the Damodar River, the park provided an excellent natural laboratory for ecological and biodiversity studies.

Highlights of the Field Study:
Floristic survey and taxonomic identification of tree species
Observation of rich avian diversity, including Golden Oriole, Black-hooded Oriole, Green Pigeon, Owls, Woodpeckers, and Rufous Treepie
Study of aquatic ecosystems and riverine biodiversity
Practical exposure to in-situ and ex-situ conservation strategies

The visit offered students valuable hands-on experience in ecological observation, biodiversity assessment, and environmental conservation, reinforcing the importance of field-based scientific learning.

Learning from Nature, Preserving for the Future.
