IN MEMORIAM

Reminiscing about our post on the school’s official fb page dated 13/02/2023 where we had shared the inspiring story of a steadfast Patrician, Brig. Sudhangshu Sekhar Chakravarti, we are extremely saddened to inform you that Brig. Chakravarti passed away in Kolkata on 17th April, 2025.

Born in October 1926, Late Brig. Chakravarti had joined St. Patrick’s way back in 1935 in standard 3 when most of the students were Anglo Indians or British and the teaching faculty comprised Irish Brothers with the exception of only 4 Indian teachers.
Difficult though it was for him to cope with the difficulties that he had faced, he was greatly motivated by Br. Mc. Cain to face his problems which he looked back with gratitude as his greatest life lessons in his later life.‘Chak’, as he was popularly known in school also went on to become the class topper under the able guidance of Br. Mc. Grath.

Having joined the Indian Army, he served the country both in terms of war and peace, rising to the rank of a Brigadier. Having opted for a premature retirement, he worked in the private sector till 1984 when his eyesight started failing him. He finally retired from his work life having lost his vision completely.

In spite of being confined at home due to loss of vision, old age and various illnesses, the Patrician spirit throbbed vibrantly as ever in his heart as he continued to take a keen interest in his Alma Mater and remained in touch with the school even in his last days.

The enthusiasm with which he wore the school tie even in the sunset of his life , probably being the oldest surviving Patrician stood testimony to the invincible Patrician spirit that transcends the gulf of time and distance. He will remain as an inspiration to all Patricians, both old and new.

The family at St. Patrick’s is deeply saddened at his demise. We extend our heartfelt condolences to all the members of the bereaved family.

May God grant his gentle soul peace and eternal rest! 🙏

December 2023 marked the juncture for the school where the curtains were set to be drawn on another calendar year. St. Patrick’s Higher Secondary School, Asansol , moved on to sum up 2023 in a meaningful way with the Annual Concert for the Senior and Middle School.

Apart from the various individual class performances showcasing the various dance forms of India, the bright spot of the Annual Concert was the Musical version of the timeless classic ‘The Lion King’, that has inspired generations with deep rooted wisdom and profound themes, based on the popular Disney animated film, by the same name.

Just as Disney has always given us new ways to look at animated films, Disney Theatricals is dedicated to innovative theatre.
The Lion King uses a breathtaking fusion of puppetry and human performance to recreate the animal characters.
St. Patrick’s has made a modest attempt in assembling a creative team comprising around 240 students to stage the Musical version of ‘The Lion King’, with backgrounds, opera, and dance , in order to bring about a bold and new dimension to the source material.

It is the symbolic story about trauma , the road to healing and self-realisation that has been the inspiration behind the choice of this play.

This post brings in some glimpses of the cinematic masterpiece, exploring the delicate balance of nature through the lenses of various characters who embody different philosophical perspectives which intertwine to deliver a powerful message about the interconnectedness of life and the necessity of maintaining a balance in the world, which is undoubtedly, the ‘need of the hour’.

It was an amazingly enriching experience for St. Patrick’s, Asansol,to present ‘The Roar of Destiny- A Tale of the Eternal Circle’.
