बाल दिवस का इतिहास जवाहरलाल नेहरू से जुड़ा हुआ है। जवाहरलाल नेहरू का जन्म 14 नवंबर 1889 में उत्तर प्रदेश के इलाहबाद में हुआ था। उनका शुरू से बच्चों के साथ बहुत लगाव था। हम आपको बता दें कि संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने 20 नवंबर की तारीख बाल दिवस के तौर पर तय की थी। भारत में भी आज़ादी के बाद बाल दिवस 20 नवंबर को मनाया जाता था। लेकिन इसकी तस्वीर जल्द ही बदल गई। 1964 में नेहरू के निधन के बाद, भारत में बाल दिवस 20 नवंबर की जगह 14 नवंबर को मनाया जाने लगा। चाचा नेहरू नाम से मशहूर भारत के पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री जवाहरलाल नेहरू का बच्चों से लगाव होने कारण, उनके जन्मदिन के मौके पर हर साल 14 नवंबर को बाल दिवस मनाया जाता है।
