Deptt of Fisheries Anantnag organizes awareness prog

Anantnag, Feb 28(GNS): Department of Fisheries Anantnag organised awareness cm training programme for the fish farmers and unemployed youth of the district at Fish Farm Achabal under ATMA scheme today.

On the occasion, the farmers were given training regarding various aspects of fish farming. Experts from the Department informed the trainees regarding the modern and scientific ways of fish farming. They were given the latest information about the seed, feed, water, breeding, medicine, temperature and other related factors of the fish farming.

Deputy Director Fisheries Anantnag, Mohammad Ashraf Darzi, while interacting with the farmers said that department is doing a lot of efforts for the benefit of the fish farmers. He added that need of the hour is to establish a coordination between the department and the farmers for the better establishment of the fish farming units. He further said that market facilities are being provided outside the valley also and very soon fish from Anantnag will be exported to other parts of the country and abroad. He informed the farmers that a feed mill will also be established in the district soon.

Chief Project Officer, Kokernag Fish Farm, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion, said that since Anantnag district has been recognized as the trout district, therefore the district will get more exposure for fish farming and other allied activities. He added the fisheries sector has tremendous potential in terms of employment opportunities, adding youth should come forward to establish the fish farms and provide employment to others as well.

Participants in the programme thanked the department for organizing such programmes and hoped that such programmes will be organized in future too.

Request to Hon'ble Minister for Fisheries & Fisheries
In order to protect the fish culture
the punishment needs to be stringent, which can only be achieved by
amending the said provisions so as to make the Fisheries Law
effective otherwise the offender gets away with only a meager fine.
