Here are a historical pic of the very first powered aircraft ever flown — the Wright Flyer, which made its first successful flight on December 17, 1903:
This wooden biplane, built and flown by the Wright brothers at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, is widely credited as the first heavier-than-air powered airplane that took off under its own engine power and stayed controlled in flight.
