The University of Kashmir, South Campus successfully organized a seminar on the theme “Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan: Substance Abuse and Its Eradication” on 30th April 2026 at the Conference Hall of the Library Block.
The seminar featured a keynote lecture by the Hon’ble Director, South Campus, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and highlighted the urgent need for collective societal efforts to combat the growing menace of substance abuse. A distinguished psychiatrist, Dr. Afaaq Hyder from Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag, delivered an insightful expert lecture, shedding light on the psychological, social, and health-related dimensions of substance abuse, along with strategies for prevention and rehabilitation.
Prof. Iqbal Bhat, Chairman of the Organising Committee, presented a brief overview of the seminar and emphasized the significance of the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan in promoting a drug-free society. He also formally welcomed the guests and participants.
The proceedings of the seminar were efficiently conducted by Ms. Huraira from the Department of Nursing, who ensured the smooth flow of the programme. Dr. Zia-ul-Haq Rafique delivered a comprehensive session focusing on the eradication of drug abuse, stressing awareness, early intervention, and community participation.
A pledge against drug abuse was also held during the programme. The Hon’ble Director read out the pledge, which was solemnly repeated by the students, faculty, and staff, reaffirming their commitment to support the vision of a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir and to actively contribute towards spreading awareness in society.
The seminar witnessed active participation from faculty members, students, and staff, reflecting a shared commitment towards addressing the critical issue of substance abuse and fostering a healthier, drug-free society.
