World Book and Copyright Day Celebrated with Literary Zeal at SGHPS, GT Road
The Senior Section of Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School enthusiastically celebrated World Book and Copyright Day on 23 April 2026 with a series of engaging literary and creative activities organised collaboratively by the English, Library and Art Departments. The celebration aimed to foster a love for reading, creativity and self-expression among students.
As part of the week-long celebration, a Storytelling Activity for Grade VII was initially conducted in classrooms during the English period, where students showcased their narration skills and creativity. On 23 April 2026, the best storyteller from each section participated in the final Storytelling Competition held in the Kalgidhar Auditorium, captivating the audience with expressive narration and imaginative presentation.
For Grades VIII and IX, a Calligraphy Competition was organised in which students beautifully penned inspiring quotes related to books, reading and the joy of learning, showcasing their artistic flair and thoughtful perspectives.
The students of Grade X participated in a Book Cover Design Competition, displaying remarkable creativity and innovation by designing visually appealing covers for their favourite books.
The activities were conducted smoothly under the able guidance of Headmistress Mrs. Gursharan Kaur. She appreciated the enthusiastic participation of the students and emphasised the importance of books in shaping young minds and broadening horizons.
Principal and Assistant Director Mrs. Kawalpreet Kaur lauded the efforts of the students and remarked that books are a treasure of knowledge that inspires imagination, nurture intellect and empower individuals to dream beyond boundaries.
The celebration concluded on a successful note, leaving students inspired to cultivate the habit of reading and cherish the timeless value of books and literature.

A Poster Making Activity was organised for Senior Secondary students to encourage creativity and spread awareness about the importance of nature and conservation of resources. Through vibrant visuals and powerful messages, students expressed the need to save natural resources and protect the environment. To mark the global observance of Earth Day, the Senior Section of Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School celebrated the day with great enthusiasm and a strong sense of environmental responsibility. A series of creative and meaningful activities were organised to spread awareness about protecting and preserving our planet.
Students of Class X planted saplings in and around the school campus, pledging to nurture nature. Classes IX and VII participated in a Poster Making Activity, creating impactful posters on environmental conservation. Class VIII students showcased creativity through stone painting and key chain making using waste materials, promoting recycling and reuse.
An informative PowerPoint presentation on the Impact of War on Environment by Harkirat Singh and Sannat Saini sensitised students to global environmental challenges. Students also took a pledge to save energy and adopt renewable resources.
A key highlight was the signing of the slogan “Say No to Plastic Bags, Yes to Paper Bags” by the worthy Principal and Assistant Director, Mrs. Kawalpreet Kaur, reinforcing the school’s commitment to eco-friendly practices. Headmistress Mrs. Gursharan Kaur appreciated the students’ efforts and motivated them to adopt sustainable habits in daily life.
The celebration was conducted successfully under her able guidance, making the event educational, inspiring, and impactful.

On World Earth Day, our Senior Secondary students and staff pledged to Plant and Adopt a Tree as a step towards a greener tomorrow. By nurturing trees, they shared a collective responsibility to protect nature and promote a sustainable environment. Small actions today can create a healthier planet for future generations.
