BRIEF BIO-DATA OF DR. AMARJIT SINGH SETHI

Former Dean of the Faculty of Economics & Business, Dr Amarjit Singh Sethi has been a Senior Professor at the Punjab School of Economics, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. Earlier, a member of both Senate and Syndicate of GNDU, Prof. Sethi has put in nearly 41 years’ Continuous/ Regular Teaching & Research Experience in Different Universities (viz., HP Agricultural University, Palampur; Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and GND University, Amritsar). Having done his M.Sc. and Post-M.Sc. Diploma in Statistics from the IASRI, New Delhi, Dr Sethi did his Ph.D. in Quantitative Economics from the GND University, Amritsar.

A Gold-Medallist, Prof Sethi has been bestowed with the Best Paper Prize Twice: By the Indian Society of Agricultural Statistics, New Delhi (1987-88); and in an International Conference on Shifting Paradigms in Applied Economics and Management: Course Correction (2014). During his academic career, he was awarded with numerous Scholarships and Fellowships, like Punjab State Government Merit Scholarship; I.C.A.R. Junior Fellowship; I.C.A.R. Senior Fellowship; C.S.I.R. Junior Research Fellowship; and N.C.E.R.T. Junior Research Fellowship.
As a keen researcher, Prof Sethi has authored two books, and has published 103 papers in journals of National & International repute. Besides, he has presented 140 research articles in National/ International Conferences and Seminars; has acted as a Resource Person & has delivered 151 Invited Lectures in various institutions, and has chaired 32 Technical Sessions in various Conferences/ Seminars. During his career, he has completed a number of research projects; has imparted research guidance to 48 M.Sc./ M.B.E./ M.Phil students; and has imparted Major/ Minor advisement to 20 Ph.D. candidates. Prof Sethi is Subject Matter Expert on National-level & State-level Bodies; acted as Additional Local Organising Secretary for holding 42nd Annual Conference of the Indian Econometric Society (TIES) at GND University, Amritsar (January, 2006); and has held various positions in Professional Bodies, like (a) Member Executive Committee of The Indian Econometric Society (TIES, 2014-2015); (b) Member Executive Committee of the Indian Association for Research in National Income and Wealth (2013-2015 & 2015-2017); (c) Member Executive Committee of the Indian Association for Research in National Income and Wealth (2011-2013); (d) Member, Executive Committee to represent Punjab state in the Indian Economic Association for three years’ period (2007-2010); (e) Joint Secretary of the Indian Econometric Society (2006-07); (f) Member Executive Committee of the Indian Econometric Society (2007-08); (g) Member, Editorial Board of the Indian Journal of Quantitative Economics (since 1989); (h) Referee for reviewing research articles in the Public Policy and Poverty (Published by John Wiley & Sons); The Indian Economic Journal; South-Asia Economic Journal; Journal of the APJ Institute of Management Studies; and Arth Anvesan; (i) Member, Advisory Board of Arth Anvesan (Journal of Economics), Mata Vaishno Devi University, Jammu; (j) Member, Board of UG Studies in Economics, Kashmir University, Srinagar (1996-1997); (k) Member, Board of PG Studies in Economics, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra (2008-2010); (l) Member, Board of Studies in Economics, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla (2016-17); and (m) Member, Board of UG & PG Studies in Economics (from time-to-time), GND University, Amritsar.

Prof Sethi’s biographical data has been included in the Marquis Who’s Who in the World, 21st Edition (2004), as also in the very First Edition of the Marquis Who’s Who in Asia (2006). As an Applied Econometrician, Prof Sethi has a strong passion for getting solution to his complex problems through a very strong battery of self-developed computer programmes in the R-Language.
