The Department of Physics was created in 1972. It was catering to the needs of Chemistry and Biology departments from 1972-79 (Honours School) in 1979 and M.Sc.
The teaching programme of the department started at the level of B.Sc. (Honours School) in 1982. Now the Department of Physics offers courses leading to the degrees of B.Sc. (Honours School), M.Sc. (Honours School), M.Sc.(Honours), M.Phil and Ph.D programmes.
