AN APPEAL
Dear All
*Ganpati visarjan* , though spiritually significant, often causes severe water pollution. Most idols are made of Plaster of Paris (PoP), which takes months to dissolve and raises water alkalinity. Chemical paints contain toxic metals like lead, mercury, and cadmium, which poison rivers and lakes. After immersion, oxygen levels in water bodies often drop by 50โ60%, leading to mass fish deaths, as reported in Mumbai and Nagpur. Non-biodegradable waste like plastic, thermocol, and glitter further choke drains and harm aquatic life. Contaminated water also spreads diseases among humans.
*The Inner Wheel Club of Amritsar Midtown New Gen* has taken this initiative to spread awareness and encourage the use of small *eco-friendly Ganpati idols.* Together, letโs celebrate responsibly and protect our environment.
๐ *_So this Ganesh Chaturthi, be the change!_*
