Our kids are currently on vacation!
And while they're away, we are gathering resources and materials and essentials to welcome them back to a more well stocked and well equipped school!

These would include tools and props that would enable the continuity of extra-curricular activities at school as well as any additional learning resources to enhance academic potential.

We really do want to give them the complete schooling experience!

If you wish to make a monetary contribution, kindly 'Donate Now' on the "Future" or the "Happenings" Page at the link (our regularly updated website) below:

There's two programs kicking off at the school this week!

They are both part of the Arts Program. (More details on the 'Happenings' page of our official website.)

The Story Exchange Program seeks to strengthen our students' hold over languages through storytelling and translation exercises.

The First Classical Arts Program introduces our students to the world of Classical Dance by gradually tuning them into the simplicity and complexity of the Art form!

Both programs are tentatively on for a fortnight and we'll keep you posted as often as we can!

Early next week, we begin a campaign to encourage children inhabiting areas surrounding our own village of Gopalgram to enrol themselves in our school.

We want everyone to have the gift of education.
What began for children in our own village will now be made accessible to children from further out.

We look forward to new enrollments!

Thank you all so much for making the contributions that you have!
With books and other things!

Our tempo leaves for the village today, carrying all the wonderful goodies you have sent across for our students to savour, gain knowledge from and better their skills with.

These contributions you make are not small and they will make a big difference to the students and the village community as a whole.
God Bless You.

If you feel you have more to give, you may absolutely get in touch with us. And another tempo will ride out soon after!
Thank you again. We are immensely grateful. 🙏🏽

Our school is managed by The Gram Vikas Mandal Trust of the village of Gopalgram.

The Trust prioritizes the progress of the village and its surrounding area.

It now has an identity!
The art is profuse, just like every part of Gujarat!

The Gram Vikas Mandal Trust Identity:

1.

The fertile land of Gopalgram yields a variety of resources - chiefly cotton. Farming and Agriculture dominate the activities performed by locals.

2.

Cows and Lions are endemic to the region. The cattle are crucial to farming and the lions are a major attraction to the area!
Both animals pave the way for progress, adding to and often occasioning the abundance of the region from an economic standpoint.

3.

Our school (OPZHS) is an integral part of the Trust's overall effort in ensuring the growth and progress of the village of Gopalgram.

4.

In the colours of the Indian flag in entirety (because the village is after all, a rural heartland of India), the rays of the Sun depict the sureness of and hope for a brighter future.

5.

Solar panels placed in their original formation - that incidentally coincides with an open book - complete the circle of ideas involving education, development, sustainable living and a conscious, modern ecosystem that the Trust wishes to collectively work towards.

In classroom conversations with the kids, soon after in-person classes resumed, we were made aware of how eager the students are to learn different and and pursue other extra-curricular activities.

They want to explore the realms of and and and outside of the walls of a classroom and curriculum.

Every day, we are getting a step closer to carrying them a well rounded and diverse educational experience.

If you have suggestions or wish to share your talent or areas of expertise with our students so they may be exposed to entirely different realms, get in touch with us.

Meanwhile, we're working on several outside of classroom programs for the kids!

We have been in conversation with Principal Bharat Mehta this past week, in the lead up to the opening of the school and soon after.
As a local resident of the district of Amreli (which our village school belongs to), he has been privy to the challenges faced by the inhabitants of this rural heartland. Squalor, extreme poverty, malnutrition and starvation even, are realities here.

He has personally visited the makeshift homes (often without a roof or even the most basic necessities) of so many of the students now studying at our school to convince their families to send them to school so they may better their own living conditions in the future, take care of their families and see a brighter, better dawn.

He hopes to instill a love of learning in them all. A lot of our students who come from extreme poverty have a responsibility to study hard, to become well rounded individuals, to dream big and provide for their families. And hopefully, encourage many other children to do the same.

They are the success stories our principal wishes to write. And he will.

He plans to begin with discipline. By teaching them everyday to show up to school, to show up to the tasks they are meant to perform, to work hard, regularly and consistently and be constantly driven by the prospect of what their lives could become if they simply show up, show respect - to themselves, to others, to the opportunities being created for them, to the facilities being provided to them - and then show the world what they can do!

Our school has been rebuilt with purpose.
The values are the same as they have been generations ago, only our students have to be better prepared to carry those value systems sustainably and respectfully into their futures.

At the opening ceremony of the refurbished institute, trustee and promoter Meenal Zatakia based her entire talk around the word "Swachhata".

She wanted to begin clean with a focus on hygiene, sanitation, health as well as purity in thought, word and deed.
The students have a new, modern and well equipped arena to learn in and they would have to come here with an open, clean, fair, free and conscious mind.

Their school is an extension of themselves. Just as they are meant to care and respect their bodies, their physical and mental health, so too their school.

Meenal's speech on "Swachhata" sought to educate the students on keeping their surroundings clean and pristine - a form of respect for their place of learning, knowledge and character building.
Cleanliness is a culture and a foundation that solid futures are built on. Learning how to clean up your act is part of education!

Our purity is reflected in how well we preserve.

And so, our students were told they have a new school that they have to keep new, with fresh ideas and the desire to maintain what they have been given.
With hope, we give them "Shaala" and "Swachhata" in our "Swades".
May they keep it for the greater good!
