As today is holiday, let's know about interesting Astronomical Phenomenon going to happen tonight.
I would like to inform you that today we are going to experience the longest night of the year. This special astronomical event is known as the Winter Solstice. On this day, the duration of daylight is the shortest, while the night lasts the longest in the entire year.
What is it called and why does it happen?
This phenomenon is called the Winter Solstice. It occurs due to the Earth’s axis being tilted at about 23.5 degrees. During this time, the Northern Hemisphere is tilted farthest away from the Sun, causing the Sun’s rays to fall more obliquely. As a result, we receive less sunlight, making the day shorter and the night longer.
What is its importance?
The Winter Solstice holds scientific, natural, and educational importance.
It marks an important point in the Earth’s journey around the Sun.
From this day onward, the length of daylight gradually begins to increase.
It helps us understand seasonal changes and the relationship between the Earth and the Sun.
