*NJPS Library...Hope for the future*
When a newly born school invests whole heartedly in a library, a strong message is conveyed. The intention of the Director/owner to give wings to her students and nurture the right kind of learning from young age comes to the forefront.
When I saw the magnificent library in the new block, I was pleasantly surprised as well as impressed. Nirmal Jyotsna Public School is all of six years old, having started in 2020. The onslaught of Covid as well as numerous challenges couldn’t shake the perseverance of Dr. Monami Basu, the Director of the school. I was invited to conduct a teachers’ training workshop two and a half years ago.
Since then the school has progressed by leaps and bounds, all thanks to the untiring efforts of the person at the helm of the affairs. So I was very impressed by the library along with science laboratories, visitors’ lounge in the newly constructed wing, when I had the opportunity of visiting it recently.
Library is an essential part of a school. Dr. Monami Basu personally takes care of the kind of books to be incorporated, adding classics from personal collection, and planning to add a lot more . This speaks volumes about her right academic intent as well as an effort towards holistic development of the children. While I was peeping at the titles of the novels, a class came in with a teacher. The children read during the library period and are allowed to issue books for a few days.
The importance of libraries can be understood by the fact that any invader who wanted to wipe out a civilization, invariably tried to destroy the library first because library signifies wisdom and culture of millions of years encapsulated in various books.
My best wishes to such a dynamic and learned leader for unprecedented growth of her institution in the coming years. May all the cupboards fill with wisdom of the world and children learn to savour the knowledge with a discerning mind.
