AMU Launches 48 SWAYAM MOOCs for July–December 2026 Semester

ALIGARH, July 28: Reinforcing its commitment to expanding access to quality higher education through digital learning, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has launched 48 Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) on the Government of India's SWAYAM platform for the July–December 2026 semester. The courses, developed by AMU's distinguished faculty members, are open to learners across the country free of cost, with enrolment now open through the SWAYAM portal.

The initiative aligns with the vision of Digital India and the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasise multidisciplinary learning, academic flexibility, equitable access, and the integration of technology in higher education. As an Institution of National Importance (INI), AMU has been actively contributing to this national mission by designing high-quality online courses for students, professionals, and lifelong learners.

According to the University, the 48 MOOCs, comprising 19 new and 29 rerun courses, span a wide range of disciplines, including Business Administration, Commerce, Computer Science, Data Science, Environmental Studies, Economics, Education, English, Geography, Hindi, Persian, Law, Political Science, Public Health, Sociology, Library and Information Science, Women's Studies, Forensic Medicine, Botany, Wildlife Science, Zoology, and Physical Education. The courses cover diverse themes such as strategic management, digital marketing, data science using Python, disaster risk management, environmental education, molecular biology, public health, theatre studies, Digital Humanities, international relations, entrepreneurship, financial management, toxicology, and women and entrepreneurship, among others. Most courses are offered in 8- and 12-week formats.

The SWAYAM platform also facilitates academic credit transfer in accordance with the UGC (Credit Framework for Online Learning Courses through SWAYAM) Regulations, enabling Higher Education Institutions to allow students to earn credits for up to 40 per cent of the courses in a semester through SWAYAM, subject to the applicable regulations. This framework provides greater curricular flexibility while ensuring the quality and recognition of online learning.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Naima Khatoon has appealed to higher educational institutions, teachers, and students to take advantage of these courses and actively participate in the initiative. She said the University's MOOCs are designed to equip learners with contemporary knowledge, practical skills, and academic enrichment irrespective of their geographical location or socio-economic background, while contributing to the national objective of making SWAYAM a globally recognised platform for quality education.

Prof. M. Aasim Zafar, Coordinator, MOOCs, said that the launch of 48 SWAYAM courses marks another significant milestone in AMU's efforts to strengthen digital learning and expand access to quality higher education. He said the courses have been developed by experienced faculty members across diverse disciplines to meet the evolving academic and professional needs of learners. As enrolment is now open, he urged students and research scholars to register for the courses to broaden their knowledge and academic horizons. He also encouraged faculty members and working professionals to enrol and utilise the platform for upskilling, reskilling, and continuous professional development.

Enrolment for all AMU SWAYAM courses is free, although learners seeking certificates or academic credit are required to complete the prescribed SWAYAM and University formalities. Detailed information about the courses and the enrolment process is available on the SWAYAM portal.

​Born in Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh, Bushra was always an academic prodigy—completing her MBA before the age of 20. But it was her time at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) that truly anchored her research capabilities and academic independence. At AMU, she cleared the prestigious NET-JRF on her very first attempt and earned her PhD in Management in record time. Even after moving to Saudi Arabia to work as an Assistant Professor, the desire to serve her own nation pulled her back home.
​Her path to the uniform wasn't a straight line—it was forged through extraordinary perseverance. Balancing family responsibilities, undergoing major surgeries, and raising two young children, she refused to let her dreams take a backseat.
​Her relentless drive shattered every societal expectation:
​First Milestone: Cleared the UPSC exam in 2018 (while in the final stages of pregnancy!) to secure a spot in the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS).
​State Recognition: Simultaneously bagged the 6th Rank in the UP PCS exam, serving dynamically as the SDM of Firozabad Sadar, where she became known for her fearless stance against illegal mining.
​The Dream Realized: Never one to settle, she rewrote her destiny by clearing UPSC again with an All India Rank (AIR) 234 to claim her ultimate goal—the Indian Police Service (IPS).
​Today, as an IPS officer, Dr. Bushra Bano stands as a shining beacon of women empowerment, a proud AMU Alumna, and an inspiration to millions of young minds across India. She proves that motherhood, structural barriers, or career shifts are never full stops—only chapters in a story of ultimate triumph.

From the tranquil hills of Bhaderwah to the highest echelons of law enforcement in Jammu and Kashmir, Dr. Mohd Haseeb Mughal’s life story is an incredible testament to academic brilliance, tactical leadership, and dedicated public service.
Before becoming one of the most respected names in the Indian Police Service (IPS), Dr. Mughal was an absolute powerhouse in academics. His journey of excellence was deeply shaped by his Alma Mater, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). At AMU, he proved his intellectual mettle by becoming a double Gold Medallist during both his B.Sc. (Hons) and M.Sc. degrees. He later carried that same rigorous dedication forward to earn a Ph.D. in Biosciences (Botany) from Jamia Hamdard University.
When he traded the research lab for the uniform, Dr. Mughal brought that same sharp, analytical mind to the front lines of public safety.
As a decorated officer of the 2009 IPS batch, his career stands as a masterclass in handling high-stakes operational roles:
Commanding the Core: He has led five critical districts across Jammu and Kashmir as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), including Baramulla, Rajouri, Kishtwar, Handwara, and the highly sensitive capital, Srinagar.
Steering Through History: His tenure as SSP Srinagar (2019–2021) was defined by his exceptional ability to maintain peace, public order, and community trust during immensely challenging periods.
A Decorated Legacy: His fearless service has earned him the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service, the President’s Medal for Meritorious Service, and the highly prestigious Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG) three times.
Today, serving as an In-charge Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. Haseeb Mughal remains a proud AMU alumnus who exemplifies how a strong foundation in education can forge an extraordinary leader in public service.
