Aligarh Muslim University :: Home 14-MAR-2014:   The Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Zameer Uddin Shah today inaugurated Petrology Lab in the Department of Geology.

In an effort to popularize the benefits of scientific knowledge and practical appropriation, 28th February is celebrated as National Science Day (NSD). The NSD is observed to mark the novel discovery of "Raman Effect" by the great Indian Physicist "Sir C. V. Raman" on 28th February, 1928.

The basic objective of observation of National Science Day is to spread the message of importance of science and its application among the people.

Training & Placement Cell (Geology) is organizing a "Mock Interview/Personality Test" for the "Geologists' Examination" written qualified students.

Mr. Mir Md. Ramiz, Research Scholar (prospective) of Department of Geology, A.M.U., Aligarh has been awarded “Best Paper Presentation” in the 5th All India Students Symposium on Geology, "GEOYOUTH-2014" held in the Department of Geology, Faculty of Earth Sciences Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur on 11th and 12th February, 2014.

Mr. Bulbul Mondal and Mr. Parwez Akhtar, alumni of Department of Geology, A.M.U. and currently serving as a Geologist in the Geological Survey of India interacted with the students of Department of Geology in the Audio-Visual Hall.

They answered to the queries of the students and suggested various steps for achieving success in the interviews conducted by recruiting organizations.

The interactive session was organized by the Training & Placement Cell (Geology) which was inaugurated by Dr. L.A.K. Rao Chairman, Dept. of Geology. Dr. M.E.A. Mondal (TPO, Geology) introduced the students with objectives and goals of Training & Placement Cell of the department and invited Mr. Bulbul Mondal and Mr. Parwez Akhtar for interaction. Mr. Iftikhar Ahmad (Member Training & Placement Cell) thanked the guests and the students for their participation.

GEOFORUM organized an event/oral presentation on the topic "Role of Earth Scientists in 21st century" in the Audio-Visual (AV) Hall of the Department of Geology on February 05, 2014 for the students. Dr. L.A.K. Rao, Chairman, Department of Geology presided over the function. Sixteen students participated and presented their views on the topic which were evaluated/judged by the experienced faculty members Dr. Abu Talib (Associate Professor) and Dr. Sarwar Rais (Associate Professor). Large number of students including faculty members were present in the AV Hall to witness the presentations of the students.

Following students were judged as the winners of the event:
1st Prize - Ms. Naima Akhtar (MSc, Previous)
2nd Prize - Mr. Mohammad Hasan Ansari (MSc, Final)
3rd Prize- Mr. Himanshu Dhyani & Mr. Syed Arif Husain Jafri (Both MSc, Previous).

Ms. Ilma Arshad of BSc (Final) conducted the program while Ms. Roohi Irshad, the Vice-President of the forum introduced GEOFORUM, its mission and future goals to the audience. Mr. Iftikhar Ahmad, the General Secretary of the forum proposed the vote of thanks and invited Mr. Ausaf Raza, Geologist in Geological Survey of India (Ministry of Mines), an alumnus of Department of Geology, AMU (Aligarh) for an interaction session with the students. Mr. Ausaf Raza shared his experiences and motivated students towards turning their dreams into reality and excelling in their career.
