AMU alumnus shares his entrepreneurial journey at the Department of Pharmacology
Aligarh, December 28: Renowned scientist and entrepreneur, Dr. Arshad Siddiqui, founder of Paraza Pharma Inc delineated the challenges and opportunities he faced while transitioning from a scientist to an entrepreneur.
Delivering a lecture at the Department of Pharmacology, JN Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University, on the topic “From Scientist to Entrepreneur: A Journey”, the AMU alumnus Dr. Siddiqui shared his inspiring career trajectory, beginning with his educational journey at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), where he completed his M.Sc. and M.Phil. in Chemistry. He then advanced his studies at Lakehead University and the University of Waterloo, Ontario, earning an M.Sc. in Chemical Physics and a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry.
Dr. Siddiqui discussed his professional experience at Shire-Biochem Pharma in Montreal, Canada, where he worked as a drug discovery scientist from 1990 to 2001. His research focused on virology, particularly HIV, HBV, and HCV, and he co-invented the anti-HIV drug Lamivudine (3TC). He also developed three drug candidates that progressed to clinical trials and received the prestigious Prix-Galien award for his contributions.
Dr. Siddiqui shared valuable insights into his company, Paraza Pharma Inc., emphasizing the importance of a collaborative, egalitarian business culture that fosters innovation.
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, where residents had the opportunity to engage with Dr. Siddiqui and gain insights into his business model in the pharmaceutical industry.
The session was chaired by Prof. Syed Ziaur Rahman, Chairman, Department of Pharmacology, AMU.
