AMU CEPECAMI Organizes International Conference on Educational and Economic Status of Muslims in India

Aligarh, September 26: The Centre for Promotion of Educational and Cultural Advancement of Muslims of India (CEPECAMI), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), commenced its two-day International Conference on “Educational and Economic Status of Muslims in India: Challenges, Opportunities, and Policy Recommendations” on September 26 at the JNMC Auditorium, AMU. The conference brought together eminent academicians, scholars, policymakers, and experts to deliberate on key educational and socio-economic issues and explore evidence-based strategies and policy approaches for advancing inclusive development.

The inaugural session was presided over by Prof. Naima Khatoon, Vice-Chancellor, AMU. Mr Manoj Yadav, IPS, Director General, Haryana Institute of Public Administration, and an alumnus of AMU, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Prof. Amitabh Kundu, former Professor of Economics, Jawaharlal Nehru University, delivered the keynote address, while Prof. K. M. Baharul Islam, Director and Professor, Institute of Management Technology, Hyderabad, was the Guest of Honour.

In her presidential address, Prof. Naima Khatoon emphasized the importance of sustained efforts to expand educational and economic opportunities and highlighted the role of universities in promoting inclusive and equitable development. She stressed that institutions of higher learning must continue to create enabling environments that nurture talent, promote social mobility, and empower young people to contribute meaningfully to society and the nation.

Mr Manoj Yadav, recalling his days at AMU, underlined the significance of education, skill development, institutional support, and equal opportunities in enabling communities to contribute effectively to national development. He observed that empowering individuals through quality education and appropriate skills can strengthen their capacity to participate productively in the country’s economic and social progress.

Prof. Amitabh Kundu presented an analytical perspective on the educational and socio-economic status of Muslims, stressing the importance of reliable data, targeted interventions, and appropriate policy measures. Prof. K. M. Baharul Islam emphasized education, economic empowerment, and institutional capacity-building, calling for translating academic insights and policy recommendations into practical initiatives.

The session also witnessed the release of CEPECAMI’s journal, Naqsh-e-Farda, and the conference souvenir by the Vice-Chancellor and other dignitaries.

Prof. Mohammad Mohibul Haque, Director, CEPECAMI, delivered the welcome address, highlighting the Centre’s commitment to advancing educational, cultural, and socio-economic development through research, dialogue, and meaningful academic engagement. Adding a distinctive literary charm to the occasion with his couplets, Dr Ahmad Mujtaba Siddiqui, Assistant Director, CEPECAMI, and co-convener of the conference, conducted the inaugural session with warmth and eloquence.

The conference thereafter moved into technical sessions featuring scholarly presentations and extensive discussions on diverse dimensions of the central theme. The deliberations focused on contemporary challenges, emerging opportunities, and policy-oriented strategies aimed at strengthening educational advancement, economic empowerment, and inclusive development.

AMU Departments of Linguistics and Computer Science Organize Pledge Ceremonies; Plantation Drive Held at Nadeem Tarin Hall
‘Swachhata Hi Seva 2026’ (SHS 2026)

ALIGARH, September 26: The Departments of Linguistics and Computer Science, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organized pledge-taking ceremonies under the ‘Jug Jug Jio Abhiyan’ organ donation awareness campaign and ‘Swachhata Hi Seva 2026’ (SHS 2026). A plantation drive was also held at Nadeem Tarin Hall under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign.

The Department of Linguistics organized pledges on ‘Jug Jug Jio Abhiyan’ and ‘Swachhata Hi Seva 2026’ on September 26. Undergraduate and postgraduate students, research scholars, teaching faculty members, and non-teaching staff participated in the program. The participants were sensitized to their responsibilities towards cleanliness, society, and the nation and encouraged to adopt responsible practices in their daily lives and contribute towards a sustainable environment.

The Department of Computer Science organized a Swachhata Pledge-taking Ceremony on September 24 in accordance with the directions of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs regarding SHS 2026. Prof. Syed Naushad Ahmad, Dean, Faculty of Science, and Prof. Arman Rasool Faridi, Chairman, Department of Computer Science, along with faculty members, non-teaching staff, and students, participated in the program.

The participants pledged to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings, avoid littering, promote hygienic practices, and encourage others to adopt responsible behavior. They also resolved to contribute towards greater awareness about sanitation and cleanliness within the university and the wider community. Prof. Arman Rasool Faridi emphasized that cleanliness should be regarded as a continuous individual and collective responsibility and encouraged students to carry the message of cleanliness beyond the university campus.

As part of the university's environmental initiatives, a plantation drive was also held at Nadeem Tarin Hall under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, highlighting the importance of nurturing greenery and promoting environmental responsibility among students and members of the university community.

AMU Faculty Member Upholds Seerat-un-Nabi as a Source of Complete Guidance for Humanity

ALIGARH, September 26: Addressing the annual Seerat-un-Nabi program at the B.S. Abdul Rahman Auditorium of the India Islamic Cultural Centre, New Delhi, Dr Rehan Akhtar, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Theology, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), said that the life of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was not merely a collection of historical events but a comprehensive source of guidance for humanity.

Speaking on ‘Seerat-un-Nabi: Life, Character and Teachings,' Dr Akhtar highlighted the Prophet’s teachings on morality, justice, human dignity, social relations, tolerance and mutual respect. He said that the Prophet’s approach to social reform began with the transformation of individual character and gradually extended to society.

Referring to incidents from the Prophet’s life, Dr Akhtar highlighted his compassion, patience, respect for human dignity, and concern for the weak and vulnerable. He particularly cited his gentle treatment of Hazrat Anas (RA), his standing in respect when the funeral procession of a Jewish person passed by, and his visit to a Jewish boy who had fallen ill.

Dr Akhtar also highlighted the Prophet’s emphasis on women’s education and the rights of children, orphans, and other vulnerable sections. He said that the Seerah had also attracted the attention of scholars and writers beyond the Muslim world, reflecting its wider historical and intellectual significance.

Concluding his address, Dr Akhtar said that the spirit of Seerat-un-Nabi could not be confined to a particular day or gathering. He emphasized that its teachings should be reflected in everyday life through patience, justice, compassion, and respect for fellow human beings.

AMU Department of Zoology Organizes Hands-on Workshop on Lateral Flow Assay and ELISA

ALIGARH, September 26: The Department of Zoology, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), in collaboration with NuLife Pvt. Ltd., organized a hands-on workshop on lateral flow assay and ELISA, providing 90 participants with practical training in these techniques and insights into career opportunities in the life sciences industry.

Prof. Qudsia Tahseen, Chairperson, Department of Zoology, welcomed the participants and highlighted the department’s academic and research legacy. She emphasized the importance of academia-industry collaboration and encouraged faculty members to pursue such partnerships to expand research opportunities and training initiatives.

Dr. Shalini Sharma, Director, R&D, NuLife Pvt. Ltd., conducted a session on ‘Mastering Protein Detection: Practical Application & Troubleshooting using Immunohistochemistry and Western Blotting.' She subsequently introduced the participants to the fundamentals of lateral flow assay and ELISA and, along with her team comprising Dr. S. Rizwanul Husain, Mr. Rashid Saifi, and Ms. Sohana Afreen, provided hands-on training to 90 participants.

Dr. Shalini Sharma also delivered an afternoon talk on ‘Industry Readiness: What Young Scholars Need to Know,' focusing on the skills and awareness required by young researchers to prepare for opportunities in the life sciences industry.

Prof. Malik Irshadullah presented a memento to Dr. Shalini Sharma on behalf of the Department of Zoology as a token of appreciation.

Dr. Shahnawaz Ali Bhat, Programme Coordinator, Department of Zoology, proposed the vote of thanks. The program was conducted by MSc student Mr. Syed Muhammad Sarosh Ghalib.

CDOE-AMU Organizes Invited Talk on Online Education, Leadership, and AI Integration

Aligarh, September 26: The Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organized an invited talk on “Indian Market for Online Education, Preparation for Leadership in Market, and AI Integration” on September 26, bringing together faculty members and academic professionals to reflect on the rapidly evolving landscape of online education and the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in higher education.

The program focused on emerging opportunities and challenges in India’s online education sector, with particular emphasis on institutional preparedness, leadership, quality assurance, and the integration of AI into teaching-learning and academic processes.

The invited talk was delivered by Prof. Ahrar Husain, Member, Appellate Committee, Distance Education Bureau (DEB), University Grants Commission (UGC). An experienced academic and higher-education professional, Prof. Husain has served as former director of the Centre for Distance and Online Education, Jamia Millia Islamia, and has also contributed as a member of the Centre for Internal Quality Assurance (CIQA), CDOE, AMU.

In his welcome address, Prof. Ekram Khan, Director, CDOE, AMU, highlighted the growing role of online education in widening access to quality higher education. He emphasised the need for institutions to remain responsive to technological advancements, evolving learner expectations, and the changing requirements of the digital education ecosystem.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Ahrar Husain offered valuable insights into the expanding Indian market for online education and stressed the importance of strategic institutional preparedness to harness emerging opportunities. He highlighted the increasing role of AI in teaching-learning, student support services, academic administration, and educational content development, while also discussing quality assurance, regulatory requirements, and institutional readiness in the evolving Open, Distance, and Online Learning landscape.

The interactive academic engagement provided faculty members and academic professionals an opportunity to examine contemporary trends in online education and deliberate on how technological advancements and responsible AI integration can contribute to more accessible, responsive, and quality-oriented higher education.

Dr Seema Khan compered the program and conducted the proceedings, while Dr Md. Ashyam proposed the vote of thanks.

AMU Department of Ilmul Amraz Organizes Guest Lecture on Histopathology

ALIGARH, September 26: The Department of Ilmul Amraz, Faculty of Unani Medicine, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organized a guest lecture on histopathology titled ‘From Bench to Microscope: The Journey of a Tissue Section’ on September 26.

Dr. Shagufta Qadri, Department of Pathology, J.N. Medical College, AMU, delivered the lecture. She explained the journey of a tissue specimen from the laboratory bench to microscopic examination. She discussed the various stages of tissue processing and section preparation, highlighting the importance of proper handling, processing, sectioning, and staining for obtaining accurate microscopic findings. The lecture helped the scholars understand the basic principles of histopathology and the role of microscopic examination in the study and diagnosis of diseases.

Dr. Ataullah Fahad, Chairman, Department of IlmulAmraz, highlighted the historical contributions of Unani physicians to the understanding of diseases with particular reference to Ibn Sina’s Al-Qanun fi al-Tibb and historical descriptions of tumors involving the head.

The session concluded with an interactive discussion, during which the scholars raised questions related to tissue processing, microscopic examination, and pathological interpretation of tissue sections.

AMU’s STS School Organizes Inter-School Bait Bazi Competition

ALIGARH, September 26: Syedna Taher Saifuddin (STS) School, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organized an Inter-School Bait Bazi Competition on September 25 as part of its Literary Week celebrations. The competition was held at the Audio-Visual Lab of the school, providing students an opportunity to engage with Urdu poetry and demonstrate their literary knowledge, memory, and command of language.

Dr. Mushtaque Sadaf, Deputy Director, Sir Syed Academy, AMU, and Mr. Fareed Ahmad Siddiqui, Former PGT (Urdu), STS School, were the judges. Students from participating schools displayed their knowledge of Urdu poetry, presence of mind, and confidence with great enthusiasm.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Mushtaque Sadaf appreciated the efforts of the school and participating students in organizing and taking part in literary activities. He highlighted the role of Urdu literature and poetry in preserving linguistic and cultural heritage and encouraged students to read widely, develop a deeper understanding of literature, and participate actively in literary activities.

Mr. Fareed Ahmad Siddiqui also appreciated the enthusiastic participation of the students and their command of Urdu poetry. He encouraged them to cultivate the habit of reading poetry and literature.

The results were announced by Dr. Mushtaque Sadaf. The team of Mohd Hamza and Master Abu Affan of RMPS AMU City School won the first prize. The second prize was shared by the team of Abu Huraira and Abdul Azeem, of STS School, and the team of Hiba Fatima and Afifa Anjum, of AMU ABK (Girls) School. The team of Inab Rizvi and Esha Talha of AMU Girls’ School won the third prize.

Dr. Md. Alamgir, Vice Principal, STS School, appreciated the participation and performance of the students and congratulated the winners and all the participating teams. He also appreciated the teachers for encouraging students to participate in such activities.

Mr. Faisal Nafis, Principal, STS School, congratulated the organizers, participants, judges, and teachers for the successful conduct of the competition. He stressed the role of schools in nurturing literary and cultural interests alongside academic excellence and said that such competitions help students develop confidence, discipline, a healthy competitive spirit, and respect for language and literature.

Mrs. Fauzia Nikhat proposed the vote of thanks and expressed gratitude to the judges, school authorities, participating teams, teachers, students, and all those who contributed to the organization of the event.

The program was organized with the assistance of Mr. Farhan Habib, Mr. Mohd Irfan, Mrs. Nighat Waheed, Mr. Asif Ahmed Siddiqui, and Ms. Nasreen Fatima. Mrs. Nazia Sumbul and Mr. Shahab Ullah Khan conducted and coordinated the proceedings.

AMU Girls’ School Organizes Inter-School Speech Competition

ALIGARH, September 26: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Girls’ School organized an Inter-School Speech Competition as part of its Literary Week Celebration 2026, providing students from AMU schools with a platform to develop confidence, express their ideas, and engage with contemporary issues through language and literature.

Prof. Mohammad Rizwan Khan (Department of English), Dean, Faculty of Arts, graced as the Chief Guest. The panel of judges comprised Prof. Nazia Hasan and Dr. Fauzia Faridi, Women’s College. Nine AMU schools participated in the competition.

Prof. Mohammad Rizwan Khan appreciated the efforts of the school and the enthusiastic participation of the contestants. Speaking about the emerging concept of Digital Humanity, he urged students to use Artificial Intelligence wisely and emphasized that they should master AI rather than allow AI to master them. He also stressed the importance of recognizing and nurturing the individual strengths and potential of every student. Highlighting the significance of verbal and non-verbal communication, he observed that body language often communicates more than words and plays an important role in effective expression.

Welcoming the guests, judges, participating students, and teachers, Ms. Amna Malik, Principal, AMU Girls’ School, highlighted the role of literary activities in nurturing creativity, critical thinking, communication skills, and confidence among students. She also extended her best wishes to the participants.

Students of Classes IX to XII (Group A) spoke on ‘The Importance of Reading in the World of AI,' while students of Classes VI to VIII (Group B) addressed the topic ‘The Power of Stories to Change the World.'

In Group A, AsmarArafaat of AMU ABK High School (Boys) won the first prize. Mohammad Abdullah of STS School and Nuaim Mirza of RMPS AMU City School shared the second prize. Hiba Nasir of AMU Girls’ School won the third prize, while Anam Fatima of Senior Secondary School (Girls) received the consolation prize.

In Group B, Vanshika Deshrajan of AMU Girls’ School won the first prize. Jamin Noor of Ahmadi School for the Visually Challenged secured the second prize, while Mohammad Samar of RMPS AMU City School won the third prize. Anushka Saxena of AMU ABK High School (Girls) received the consolation prize.

The program was supervised by Ms. Arshi Zafar Khan, cultural in-charge. Ms. Zeba Nawaz served as the event in-charge, while Ms. Bushra Kirmani and Ms. Nusrat Parveen looked after the arrangements and coordination.

Sifat Mirza, XI Science, and Afreen Fatima, XII Science, compered and coordinated the program. The vote of thanks was proposed by Azalfa Sadiq, XII Science and Head Girl, who expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, judges, school authorities, participating schools, teachers, and students.
