RDA JNMC and AICT India Conclude Five-Day Flood Relief Mission in Assam

ALIGARH, August 25: The Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA), Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), in collaboration with AICT India, has successfully concluded a five-day flood relief and medical humanitarian mission in Assam and returned to Aligarh after providing healthcare services to flood-affected communities.

The mission was undertaken under the leadership of RDA President Dr. Akhtar Ali and the RDA Chair, with the objective of providing timely medical care, medicines and humanitarian assistance to communities severely affected by the floods. The medical teams conducted an intensive three-day ground-level operation in the Nepali Kothi area through medical camps and community outreach.

Three teams treated more than 2,000 patients from the affected communities and worked during the day and night despite difficult post-flood conditions. More than two lakh units of medicines and medical supplies were utilised and distributed during the relief operation.

The JNMC medical team comprised Dr.Fuzail, Dr. Aishwarya, Dr. Saif Ali, Dr. Ayush Sharma, Dr. Nazia Parvin, Dr. Mirza Mohammad Baig and Anika Rumman Rahi. The team provided medical consultation, treatment and essential medicines to affected families.

AICT India provided ground-level support in reaching affected communities, organising medical camps, facilitating medicines and managing logistical requirements. The coordinated efforts of RDA JNMC and AICT India enabled the medical teams to extend healthcare services to people facing difficulties in accessing medical care following the floods.

AMU Psychology Department Organizes Interactive Workshop on Trauma Release Therapy

ALIGARH, August 25: The Department of Psychology, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organised an interactive academic workshop on “Trauma Release Therapy: Exploring How the Body Holds and Releases Stored Tension” on August 24 at the Department premises. The session explored the role of body-based approaches in understanding and managing trauma-related tension.

Welcoming the participants, Prof. Shah Alam, Chairperson, Department of Psychology, highlighted the growing mental health concerns among young people, including anxiety, depression, academic and hostel-related distress, and the need for timely counseling and suicide-prevention initiatives. He stressed the importance of strengthening mental health policies and urged psychology students to develop practical skills in attentive listening, counseling and emotional regulation.

The technical and experiential session was conducted by Dr Wael Mustafa Fayez Abuhasan, Clinical Health Psychologist, Department of Health Sciences, Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences, Arab American University of Palestine, and a distinguished alumnus of AMU.

Dr Abuhasan introduced participants to Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE), a somatic approach developed by Dr David Berceli. He explained how the technique seeks to reduce accumulated neuromuscular tension through controlled physical exercises and natural neurogenic tremors. He also discussed the interaction between psychological experiences and physiological responses.

The workshop included a practical demonstration of the seven-step TRE protocol, involving gentle ankle and foot movements, stretching, forward bending, pelvic and spinal movements, a wall-sit exercise, and a supine butterfly posture. Participants were guided through the exercises in an interactive and supportive setting, with emphasis on self-regulation and safe practice.

The session concluded with an engaging interaction with participants on the application of somatic approaches in psychological and clinical practice.

The programme was hosted by MsAlizehLalpuri, MA Psychology student. MsKaaminaBeigh, BA Psychology student, delivered the vote of thanks.

AMU Faculty Member Participates in International Conference on Critical Care Medicine at SGPGIMS, Lucknow

ALIGARH, August 25: Prof. Fatima Khan, Department of Microbiology, J.N. Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), participated as a faculty member in EMPARV International 2026, an international conference organised by the Department of Critical Care Medicine, Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow, from August 20 to 23.

Prof. Khan delivered a session titled “Introduction to Antimicrobial Stewardship in ED & ICU” during a workshop on “Antimicrobial Stewardship in Emergency Department (ED) & Intensive Care Unit (ICU)”. The session covered key principles of antimicrobial stewardship, including appropriate antimicrobial selection, timely initiation of therapy, microbiological investigations, dose and route optimisation, review and de-escalation of therapy, and appropriate treatment duration.

She also conducted an interactive quiz on antimicrobial stewardship, which witnessed enthusiastic participation and facilitated discussion on practical aspects of antimicrobial prescribing and stewardship in emergency and critical-care settings.

Dr. Syed Zeeshan Ahmad Hashmi, Senior Resident, Department of Microbiology, JNMC, secured the third prize in the quiz.

AMU Education Department Workshop Focuses on NEP 2020, Skill Development, and Emerging Employment Opportunities
ALIGARH, August 25: The Department of Education, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organized a one-day workshop on “NEP 2020, Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, and Emerging Employment Opportunities in Western Uttar Pradesh” at the Conference Hall of the department on Tuesday. The workshop aimed to sensitize students and faculty members to the changing educational, skill-development, entrepreneurial, and employment landscape in the region.

The program was presided over by Prof. Nakhat Nasreen, Chairperson, Department of Education, while Dr. Ajay Vardhan Acharya, Regional Director and Head, IGNOU Regional Centre, Aligarh, Ministry of Education, Government of India, was the resource person. Dr. Mohammad Hanif Ahmad, Associate Professor, Department of Education, served as the Organizing Secretary.

Addressing the participants, Dr. Ajay Vardhan Acharya highlighted the growing importance of skill-oriented and employment-oriented education in the present socio-economic environment. He explained the implications of NEP 2020 for higher and teacher education, particularly its emphasis on multidisciplinary learning, vocational education, skill development, and employability.

Prof. Nakhat Nasreen welcomed Dr. Ajay Vardhan Acharya and appreciated his efforts towards strengthening the objectives of NEP 2020. She emphasized that effective implementation of the policy can play a vital role in equipping students with relevant competencies, entrepreneurial skills, and greater preparedness to meet the emerging demands of the employment landscape

The welcome address and introduction of the resource person were catered by Dr. Mohammad Hanif Ahmad. He emphasized the need to strengthen the linkages between education, skills, entrepreneurship, and employment so that learners are better equipped to meet the evolving demands of the world of work.

The workshop also covered self-employment and emerging employment opportunities in Western Uttar Pradesh, career development programs, entrepreneurship policies, and government initiatives, including the Chief Minister Yuva Udyam Yojana, Uttar Pradesh. The resource person encouraged students to explore entrepreneurship and self-employment as viable career options and make informed choices based on emerging opportunities.

The vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 and Viksit Uttar Pradesh @2047 was also discussed, with emphasis on creating a skilled, innovative, and economically productive young workforce. Participants were encouraged to develop practical competencies, entrepreneurial thinking, adaptability, and career awareness.

The proceedings were conducted by Ms. Fozia, Vice-President, Education Society, and Mr. Adnan Usmani, Cabinet Member, Education Society, and witnessed participation from faculty members and students. The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Prof. Poonam Chauhan, Department of Education.

Workshop on Family Counselling and Child Welfare Organised at AMU

ALIGARH, August 24: The Centre of Continuing and Adult Education and Extension, in collaboration with the Department of Home Science, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organised a workshop on “Family Counselling and Child Welfare” for learners of Adult Education.

Around 100 students and learners participated in the workshop, which provided an interactive platform to exchange views and gain practical insights into family welfare and the social and emotional needs of families and children.

Dr Mariyam, Assistant Professor, Department of Home Science, and Ms Nida, Research Scholar, used charts to highlight the importance of understanding the emotional needs of families and children.

Dr Shamim Akhtar, Director, Centre of Continuing and Adult Education and Extension, proposed the vote of thanks and appreciated the active participation of B.Sc. Community Science students and Adult Education learners in making the workshop successful.

Urdu Consumer Reporting Form for Adverse Drug Reactions Introduced at AMU’s JNMC

ALIGARH, August 24: The Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) has approved and introduced a consumer reporting form for adverse drug reactions (ADRs) in Urdu, enabling Urdu-speaking patients and medicine users to report suspected adverse effects in their preferred language. The Urdu form will be available in addition to the consumer reporting forms already provided in 10 regional languages.

The initiative is aimed at making pharmacovigilance more accessible and inclusive, particularly in areas with significant Urdu-speaking populations, and is expected to strengthen public participation in reporting medicine-related safety concerns.

Prof. Syed Ziaur Rahman, Coordinator, Regional Training Centre, Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI) and Materiovigilance Programme of India, J.N. Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), played an important role in facilitating the introduction of the Urdu form. He had advocated before the IPC for extending the facility to Urdu-speaking communities.

Welcoming the development, Prof. Ziaur Rahman urged healthcare professionals to create awareness about the facility and encourage patients to report any unusual or adverse effects experienced after taking medicines. He said that wider ADR reporting would help in the timely identification of potential safety concerns and promote safer use of medicines.

AMU Abdullah School Celebrates National Space Day with Focus on India’s Space Achievements

ALIGARH, August 24: Abdullah School, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), celebrated National Space Day with enthusiasm, highlighting India’s achievements in space science and technology. The theme of National Space Day 2026 was “Towards Viksit Bharat: Innovating, Collaborating and Aspiring to Global Space Leadership".

Students delivered speeches in English, Hindi and Urdu highlighting India’s achievements in space science, particularly the successful Chandrayaan-3 mission and the contribution of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

A poster-making competition was organised for students of Classes III to V on the themes “Chandrayaan – India’s Pride in Space” and “Life of an Astronaut”. The students participated enthusiastically and showcased their creativity and interest in space science. The activity was coordinated with the support of Ms Arshia Aftab, Ms Ambeen Zaki and the respective class teachers.

Ms Umra Zaheer, Superintendent, Abdullah School, motivated the students to dream big, develop a clear vision for their future and aspire to become scientists and innovators contributing to the progress of the nation.
