Society of Petroleum Engineers AMU Student Chapter is organizing the very first event of the Student-Alumni Interaction series – Higher Education Opportunities in Australia and Malaysia.
Mr. Mohammad Aslam is an accomplished individual with years of research experience in the chemical engineering field, and he has graciously agreed to share his insights and expertise with us. P&ID (PIPING AND INSTRUMENTATION DIAGRAM) VS PFD (PROCESS FLOW DIAGRAM)

There are two main types of process diagrams: process and instrument diagrams (P&IDs) and process flow diagrams (PFDs) (PFDs). A PFD is more of an overview of a process, while a P&ID is more detailed.

A flow diagram is a simple picture that shows the main flow path through the production equipment with process symbols. It gives a quick look at the operating unit and has symbols for all the main equipment and pipes that can be used to see how the well stream moves through the equipment. There are no secondary flows, complex control loops, or instrumentation. These PFDs are better for giving information to visitors and training new employees.

• Field technicians, engineers, and operators use P&IDs to learn more about how the process works and how the instruments are connected to each other.

• P&IDs are used by salespeople and OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) to specify equipment and build vessels.
