Law Society of Aligarh Muslim University Centre Malappuram organized a ‘Youth Parliament’as a part of its Annual Law Fest ‘Lex Justicia’ 2023 which focused on the Women Reservation Bill 2023.
The event served as a platform for young, aspiring legal minds to engage in a lively debate and it also provide a common platform for a healthy discussion on parliamentary activities and policy making.

Ms. Fathima S., B.A.LL.B 4th Year student, hosted the event. She warmly welcomed all the faculty members and participants. The event was presided by a distinguished panel of judges, including Dr. Azmat Ali, Assistant Professor, Department of Law, AMUMC; Dr. Raghul V. Rajan Assistant Professor and Proctor, Department of Law, AMUMC; Dr. Imran Ahmed, Assistant Professor, Department of Law, AMUMC and Dr. Bilal Ahmed Sheikh Assistant Professor, Department of Law, AMUMC.
Dr. Shahnawaz Ahmed Malik, Director Incharge and Coordinator of Department of Law, AMUMC commenced the event as a serving Speaker for the session. He began by acknowledging the importance of women's representation in the political landscape and the significance of the Women Reservation Bill 2023. After his opening remarks, he handed over the parliament proceedings to Deputy Speaker, Mr. Shamim Akhtar, B.A.LL.B 4th Year Student, who then took control of the session.
Law Minister Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal (Mr. Asjad Alam, B.A.LL.B 5th Year student), introduced the 108th Amendment Bill, which focused on the Women's Reservation Bill.
The first session of the event started at 10:30 A.M. which featured the opposition Congress Party and it offered a comprehensive critique of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam 2023. They raised the question regarding bill's effectiveness, highlights the potential shortcomings and also suggested the areas that need further attention.

AMU teachers and research scholars attend a national conference

ALIGARH April 28: A group of faculty members and research scholars from the Department of Linguistics, Aligarh Muslim University, under the leadership of Prof Mohammad Jahangeer Warsi, Chairman of the department, attended the 9th All India Conference of Linguistics and Folklore on “Mother Tongue, Multilingualism and National Education Policy-2020”, organized by the Department of Linguistics and Punjabi Lexicography, Punjabi University, Patiala, in collaboration with Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore, Punjabi Linguistics Association, Patiala, North Regional Language Centre, Patiala. Prof. Arvind, Vice Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala inaugurated the conference.

Delivering the inaugural address on “Mother tongue education and the Relevance of NEP-2020”, Prof. Mohammad Jahangeer Warsi said lexicography is an important part of NEP-2020 and the services of the Department of Linguistics and Punjabi Lexicography, Punjabi University, cannot be ignored when the Government of India intends to compile the dictionaries for local and regional languages.

He discussed how the multilingual set up of India is encroached upon by monolingual practice, dominated by English, as the colonial minds helped in the dominance of English.

Dr. Pallav Vishnu, Assistant Professor, Department of Linguistics delivered the Duni Chandra Memorial Lecture on “Indian Grammatical Tradition” and also presented a paper on “Language and Social Variation: A Need Based Analysis of Mother Tongue Teaching with Special reference to Speech Accommodation”. Further, Dr. Noman Tahir, a guest faculty in the Department of Linguistics presented a paper on “A syntactic Study of Kakrala Urdu”.

A number of research scholars also presented papers during the various sessions of the conference. Soumya Abidi and Uzma Afreen presented a joint paper on “Covid-19 Pandemic: A Study of Language Use at Social, Psychological and Linguistic Level”, while Mahbub Zahidi, presented a paper on “Continuing Professional Development (CPD) on Senior Secondary English Language Teachers’ Performance at Aligarh Muslim University: A Critical Analysis”.
