Anti-Tobacco Awareness Programme Held at AMU Girls’ School
ALIGARH, April 25: An Anti-Tobacco Awareness Programme was organised at AMU Girls’ School as part of the Tobacco-Free School Campaign, with the objective of educating students about the harmful effects of to***co and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
The programme was attended by Prof. Neha Agrawal, Chairperson, Department of Public Health Dentistry, and Dr. Pramod Kumar Yadav, Assistant Professor, along with their team members Dr.Hridya J and Dr. Tuba Imam.
An informative session highlighted the physical, social and psychological risks associated with to***co use. This was followed by an oath-taking ceremony in which students pledged to stay away from to***co and promote a healthy, to***co-free environment.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Ms. Alka Agarwal, Officiating Principal. Faculty members including Ms. Arshi Zafar Khan, Dr. Waseem Raza, Ms. Huma Mukhtar and Ms. Bushra Kirmani contributed to the organisation of the event.
To reinforce the message, activities such as nukkadnatak, slogan writing and poster-making competitions were also organised, providing students a creative platform to express awareness about to***co-related hazards.
The programme was coordinated by Parisa (Class XII Humanities) and concluded with a positive response from students, reaffirming the school’s commitment to a to***co-free environment.

AMU Launches Tobacco-Free School Campaign at STS School
ALIGARH, April 23: Syedna Taher Saifuddin School (Minto Circle), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), hosted a Tobacco-Free School Campaign initiated by the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Dr. Ziauddin Ahmad Dental College, AMU.
The campaign was launched during an outreach visit by the department, which included an awareness session highlighting the harmful effects of to***co use and promoting a healthy lifestyle among students. An oath was also administered to uphold a to***co-free environment within the school premises.
Prof. Neha Agarwal, Chairperson, Department of Public Health Dentistry, led the programme and emphasised the role of schools in shaping healthy habits among students. She highlighted the risks associated with to***co use and stressed the importance of early awareness and preventive measures.
Mr. Faisal Nafis, Principal, STS School, said that the initiative marked an important step towards creating a healthier and more informed student community, reaffirming the school’s commitment to maintaining a safe and to***co-free environment.
The programme was organised with the support of Dr. Md. Alamgir, Vice-Principal, Mr. Farhan Habib and Ms. Nasreen Fatima, reflecting a collaborative effort to promote student well-being.

Department of Public Health Dentistry Established at Dr. Z.A. Dental College, AMU
Aligarh, March 27: In a significant academic milestone, Dr. Ziauddin Ahmad Dental College, Aligarh Muslim University, has formally established the Department of Public Health Dentistry as an independent academic unit, reinforcing its commitment to community-oriented dental education, research, and outreach.
Dr. Neha Agrawal has been appointed as the Chairperson of the newly constituted department.The creation of the department fulfils long-standing requirements of the National Dental Council, reflecting the institution’s adherence to academic excellence and regulatory standards. The achievement has been made possible through the concerted efforts and guidance of Prof. Mohammad Khalid, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, and Prof. R. K. Tewari, Principal of the Dental College, along with the dedicated support of the administrative team. The leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Naima Khatoon, has been instrumental in facilitating this development.
The establishment of the department highlights the growing importance of public health dentistry in addressing oral health challenges at community and population levels. The department is actively engaged in teaching undergraduate BDS final-year students and conducting a postgraduate programme, thereby strengthening academic training and capacity building.
It also plays an important role in organizing dental health camps, awareness drives, and research initiatives. In addition to outpatient services at the college, the department extends its reach through outreach centres including the Medical Attendance Scheme, Urban Health Training Centre, and Rural Health Training Centre.
Widely welcomed by faculty and stakeholders, this initiative is expected to open new avenues for interdisciplinary collaboration, enhance student training, and strengthen public health interventions.

Vice Chancellor Releases ‘Dental Buzz 5.0’, Calls It Reflection of Academic Vitality at AMU
ALIGARH, February 11: Aligarh Muslim University Vice Chancellor Prof Naima Khatoon released Dental Buzz 5.0, the annual magazine of Dr Ziauddin Ahmad Dental College, AMU, and described the publication as a reflection of the institution’s intellectual vitality and creative energy.
Congratulating the editorial team and students, Prof Khatoon said that such publications strengthen institutional identity and provide students with an opportunity to document and reflect upon their academic journey. She noted that a vibrant college magazine not only showcases achievements but also nurtures confidence, creativity and a sense of belonging among students.
The ceremony was attended by Dean, Faculty of Medicine, Prof Mohd Khalid; Principal of the Dental College, Prof R K Tewari; Prof N D Gupta; Prof Neha Agrawal; senior faculty members, students and members of the College Society (2025–26).
Dental Buzz 5.0 highlights the college’s academic accomplishments, research initiatives, sports successes and cultural engagements during 2025, reflecting the collective efforts of students and faculty in advancing professional excellence.
Dean Prof Mohd Khalid appreciated the magazine for capturing the academic rigour and extracurricular dynamism of the college, while Principal Prof R K Tewari described it as a testament to teamwork and dedication.
The publication was brought out under the leadership of Editor-in-Chief Dr Nasir Salati, with Ms Nimrah (BDS Final Year) serving as Student Editor. The editorial team included Dr Arbab Anjum, Treasurer, College Society (2025–26); Co-Editor Dr Imam Azam; and Coordinator Dr Syed Amaan Ali, with active support from faculty members.
Dr Nasir Salati expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor and dignitaries for their encouragement, stating that the magazine embodies the shared commitment of the college community towards excellence and continuous growth.

Dental Mela at AMU’s STS School Highlights Importance of Oral Hygiene
ALIGARH, December 10: STS School, Aligarh Muslim University organised a Dental Mela on the theme “My Oral Health, My Right, My Duty”, aimed at promoting awareness on oral hygiene and encouraging healthy habits among students. The event featured a poster-making competition in which students showcased creative entries reflecting their understanding of oral health and preventive care.
Prof. Dr Neha Agarwal, Chairperson of the Department of Periodontia and Community Dentistry, and Prof. Dr Saima Yunus Khan, Chairperson of the Department of Paediatrics and Preventive Dentistry visited the poster display area, interacted with students and appreciated their efforts. Addressing the gathering, both emphasised the importance of regular brushing, preventive dental care and developing lifelong oral hygiene habits.
Principal Mr Faisal Nafis highlighted the responsibility young learners have in maintaining their health and acknowledging the contributions of teachers and organisers in shaping the event.
The exhibits were prepared under the supervision of Mr Mohd Shakir, Mrs Mohsina Rehman, Mrs Samina Yusuf Khan and Mrs Nazia Siyar Shamim, while the event received support from Mr Farhan Habib, Ms Nasreen Fatima, Mr Mohd Adnan, Mr Zulfiqar Alig Rizvi and Mr Mohammad Asim. Dental Health Mela Held at Dr. Ziauddin Ahmad Dental College, AMU
ALIGARH, December 16: Dr. Ziauddin Ahmad Dental College, Aligarh Muslim University, organised a Dental Health Mela aimed at promoting oral health awareness among school children and encouraging responsibility towards personal oral hygiene. The event was held under the chairpersonship of Prof. Sandhya Maheshwari and saw active participation from students and faculty members.
As part of the programme, inter-school and intra-school competitions in poster painting and slogan writing were conducted on the theme “My Oral Health: My Right, My Duty.” The competitions received an enthusiastic response, with nine schools from within and outside AMU participating. Winners were felicitated at the dental college with certificates of merit and participation. STS Minto Circle School was awarded the Best School Award for maximum participation and highest cumulative scores.
In the Slogan Writing Competition (Classes VI–X), Adeeba secured first prize, Adeefah second and Ayushi Kumari third, all from ABK Girls School. In the Poster Making Competition (Classes VI–X), Talha Khan (ABK Boys School) won first prize, Anushka Sharma (AMU Girls High School) second and Vivek Kumar (STS School) third. In the Poster Making Competition (Classes I–V), Samar Sharma (ABK Boys School) secured first prize, followed by Tanmay Choudhury and Shobhit Kumar, both from STS School.
Following the award ceremony, students were taken on an educational tour of various departments of the dental college and the Dental Health Mela stalls, where they gained basic insights into dentistry through interactive activities.
Principal of the college, Prof. R. K. Tewari, provided guidance and support for the event. The programme was organised by the Dental Health Mela Committee comprising Prof. Saima Yunus Khan, Prof. Neha Agrawal, Dr. Arbab Anjum, Dr. Juhi Gupta, Dr. Syed Amaan Ali, Dr. Atif and Dr. Faiza.
The Mela concluded successfully, reinforcing the message that oral health is both a right and a personal responsibility.
