🎉 Congratulations to Prof. Rashid Ali!

Prof. Rashid Ali from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology (ZHCET), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), has been appointed as the Provost of Sir Shah Sulaiman Hall.

The appointment is for a period of two years or until further orders, effective from August 20, 2026.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Prof. Rashid Ali and wish him every success in his new responsibility.

Senior Prof. (Dr.) Shakeel Ahmad Appointed to AMU Executive Council

Prof. Shakeel Ahmad, Current Dean, Faculty of Law Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), has been appointed as a member of the University’s Executive Council in order of seniority among the Deans of Faculties.

His appointment is effective from August 10, 2026, and will continue for as long as he remains Dean of the Faculty of Law.

Prof Syed Sirajuddin Ajmali Appointed Chairman, Department of Urdu, AMU

Aligarh, August 08, 2026 | Public Relation Prof Syed Sirajuddin Ajmali, Department of Urdu, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), has been appointed Chairman of the department for a period of three years which effect from August 10, 2026.

Prof Ajmali is an acclaimed teacher, scholar and noted Urdu poet. He completed his B.A. from the University of Kanpur and M.A., M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Urdu from the University of Delhi. Before joining AMU as Lecturer in 1997, he served as Guest Faculty at Zakir Husain PG Evening College, University of Delhi.

A scholar of Urdu literature, Prof Ajmali has published research papers, review articles and literary essays and authored the book TaraqqiPasand Tehreek Aur Urdu Ghazal. His research interests include classical and modern poetry, Sufism and the history of Urdu literature.

He has received several honours, including the Harish Chand Kathpaalia Gold Medal for Creative Writing, Delhi Urdu Academy Toppers' Award, Delhi Urdu Academy Award for Book and the Shikhar Shree Award of Shikhar Sahitya Sansthan and Ibn Sina Academy, Aligarh.

Prof Ajmali has played an active role in the literary and cultural life of AMU, serving as Coordinator, Cultural Education Centre, and President of the University Debating and Literary Club for several years.

Prof Farhan Ahmad Khan, Department of Pharmacology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), has been appointed Chairman of the department for a period of three years with effect from August 8, 2026.

Prof Khan is a clinical pharmacologist and Consultant, Drug & Poison Information Centre (DPIC), JNMC Hospital. He completed his MBBS and M.D. in Pharmacology from JNMC, AMU, and also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Diabetology and a Certificate Course in Clinical Management of Diabetes. He has been serving as Professor in the Department of Pharmacology, JNMC, since December 2020.

His research interests include rational use of medicines, pharmacogenetics, antimicrobial resistance, pharmacovigilance, anti-diabetic agents, immunopharmacology and oncology. He has supervised research projects on pharmacogenomics-guided treatment, antimicrobial resistance, diabetes, breast cancer and adverse drug reactions.

Prof Khan has received several professional honours, including the National Spotlight Award by the National Association of Pharmacology & Therapeutics and Fellowship of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine, Royal College of Physicians, UK. He is also a Trustee for Senior Academic Leadership of the British Pharmacology Society, UK, and a Global Member of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine, UK.

Aligarh, August 8: Instilling environmental consciousness among children from an early age, the NCC Unit of Aligarh Muslim University’s STS School organised a tree plantation drive on the school campus under the nationwide ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign.

The initiative sought to sensitise young students to the importance of environmental conservation while encouraging them to associate the act of planting and nurturing trees with the values of love, care and gratitude towards their mothers. The programme reflected AMU schools’ continued emphasis on developing environmentally responsible and socially conscious young citizens.

The plantation drive was attended by Mr. Faisal Nafis, Principal, STS School; Dr. Md. Alamgir, Vice Principal; Dr. Naseem Ahmad; and Mr. Mohd. Adnan Khan, along with NCC cadets.

The NCC cadets participated in planting saplings and pledged to protect and nurture them. Addressing the cadets, Principal Mr. Faisal Nafis urged them to become responsible ambassadors of environmental protection. He emphasised that planting a tree is only the beginning, while its regular watering, protection and nurturing are equally important.

The programme concluded with the cadets reaffirming their commitment to caring for the newly planted saplings and contributing to a greener and healthier environment.

The plantation drive underlined the role of school education in cultivating environmental values at a formative age. By engaging students in hands-on activities such as tree plantation, AMU schools are helping young minds understand that environmental protection is not merely a responsibility of institutions and governments, but a shared duty that begins with individual action.

The ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign further added an emotional dimension to the initiative by presenting every tree planted in a mother’s name as a tribute to love, care and life.

Prof Syed Naushad Ahmad Appointed Dean, Faculty of Science, AMU

ALIGARH, August 8: Prof Syed Naushad Ahmad, Department of Geography, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), has been appointed Dean, Faculty of Science, for a term commencing August 10, 2026 and continuing until July 3, 2027, the date of his superannuation.

Prof Ahmad has 38 years of teaching experience and has contributed extensively to teaching, research and academic administration. He completed his B.A. (Hons.), M.A. and M.Phil. from AMU and Ph.D. from Agra University in 1993. He qualified the UGC Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in 1986.

His research interests include food security, socio-economic development, environmental studies, climate change, health and geographical disparities. He has authored/edited several books and published 47 research papers, with his recent work focusing on the health and life satisfaction of older adults, urban heat islands, urban water systems, wetland degradation, maternal and child health, food insecurity and climate change.

He has served as Principal Investigator of major research projects funded by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) and the University Grants Commission (UGC), including studies on household food insecurity and human health.

AMU VC Inaugurates Regional Training Centre of Pharmacovigilance under PvPI

Aligarh, August 7: Cementing its commitment to patient safety and excellence in healthcare education, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) inaugurated the Regional Training Centre of Pharmacovigilance under the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI), Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC), marking a significant milestone in strengthening drug safety monitoring and pharmacovigilance training in the region.

The Centre was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Naima Khatoon, in the presence ofProf. Mohd. Mohsin Khan, Pro Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Mohammad Khalid, Dean, Faculty of Medicine; Prof. Anjum Parvez, Principal and Chief Medical Superintendent, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (JNMCH); Prof. Vibha Sharma , MIC PRO and was hosted by Prof. S. Ziaur Rahman, Chairman, Department of Pharmacology.

Dr. V. Kalaiselvan, Director and Senior Scientific Secretary, Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He commended the significant contributions of JNMC towards promoting and strengthening pharmacovigilance activities in India. He stated that the Regional Training Centre (RTC) at JNMC would continue to function diligently in accordance with its prescribed terms and conditions, while further advancing the objectives of the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India.

Addressing the gathering, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Naima Khatoon said that the establishment of the Regional Training Centre reflects AMU's commitment to promoting the safe and rational use of medicines. She emphasized that a robust pharmacovigilance system is indispensable for modern healthcare, enabling continuous monitoring of medicines for their safety and effectiveness even after they are introduced into the market. She noted that the Centre would not only strengthen patient care but also promote research, training and evidence-based medical practice.
