This year’s examination being conducted by State Bank of India to recruit people for the post of Probationary Officer (SBI PO) is not far away. The notification was published a few weeks ago and many candidates across the country have started preparing seriously for the exam. In this article, we shall look at how solving sample papers of SBI PO will help you crack this year’s exam.

Sample papers are of two varieties – 1. Previous years’ SBI PO papers and 2. Mock tests. Let us look at the advantages of solving these two categories of sample papers.

1. Understanding the examination pattern

The first and foremost point that has to be kept in mind before starting preparation for any competitive exam is the exam pattern. The candidate needs to have an understanding of the number of sections in the exam, the different topics in each section, different patterns of questions asked in each topic, the number of questions asked in each topic etc. Sample papers will help you get this understanding. By going through 10 – 12 sample papers, the candidate can make a list of all the different topics that appear in the exam, the number of questions from each topic etc. and plan his/her preparation accordingly.

2. Difficulty level of the questions asked

Besides getting an understanding of the different topics that will appear in the exam and the probable number of questions that will be asked from each topic, a careful study of the sample papers will help the candidate gain an understanding of the difficulty level of questions asked. It is very important for a candidate preparing for a competitive exam to know the difficulty level of questions, because this will help him/her decide how much time he/she has to allocate for a) the overall preparation and b) for each individual topic.

3. Analysis of strengths and weaknesses

The next aspect where sample papers will help a candidate is in identifying his/her strengths and weaknesses. After solving a few previous years papers and mock tests, a candidate should analyze them thoroughly and identify the areas of his/her strengths and weaknesses. For example, if a candidate is consistently failing to score well in Geometry, then he/she has to put it down in the list of weak areas and go back to practicing questions on Geometry until he/she scores well in the mocks. If a candidate is consistently scoring well in a particular area, he/she should identify it as an area of strength and see to it that the score in this area does not go below a certain cutoff in any mock. In the exam, it is more important to capitalize on areas of your strengths rather than improve in areas of your weaknesses.

4. Understanding the competition

Another aspect where sample papers will help is in understanding the competition. This is critical in every exam, especially in an exam like SBI PO, for which there is heavy competition. For this, it is very important to take national level mock tests. A lot of candidates and more importantly, all the serious ones, take these national level mock tests. So, these mocks will help you understand where you stand in the competition and what tweaks you have to make in your preparation so that you stay ahead in the race.

5. Inculcating the examination temperament

Over the years, a lot of candidates who had prepared well failed to perform well in the actual exam. This is because of the lack of a good examination temperament. Just being thorough with all the concepts is not sufficient to do well in a competitive exam like SBI PO. The candidate should have a strategy to maximize his/her score in the stipulated time. This strategy is not universal and varies from person to person. A candidate will be able to come up with this strategy only after he/she takes a number of mock tests. He/she should try out various strategies in these mock tests and stick to the one that suits him/her the best.

6. Practice

One of the best advantages of solving sample papers is that the candidate will be exposed to a wide variety of questions from all topics. Even in a non-test environment, one can take use these papers as a practice platform and prepare well for the exam.

भारतात आहेत या १५ चित्रविचित्र रहस्यमयी जागा...

१. उंदरांचं मंदिर - करणी माता मंदिर, राजस्थान
बिकानेरपासून ३० किलोमीटर अंतरावर असणारं हे मंदिर २०,००० उंदरांचं घर आहे. इतकंच नाही तर इथे उंदरांची पूजाही केली जाते. हे उंदिर म्हणजे देवीचा अवतार असल्याचं इथे मानलं जातं.

२. पक्ष्यांची सामूहिक आत्महत्या - जतिंगा, आसाम
सप्टेंबर आणि ऑक्टोबर महिन्यात आसाममधील जतिंगा गावात स्थलांतर करणारे हजारो पक्षी अतिवेगाने उडत येतात आणि येथील झाडांना आणि घरांना मुद्दामून आपटतात आणि मरण पावतात. ते असं का करतात, हे एक मोठं कोडं आहे.

३. लोकतकचा तरंगता तलाव - मणिपूर
मणिपूरचा लोकतक तलाव हा जगातील एक नैसर्गिक आश्चर्य आहे. या तलावात अनेक अशी बेटं आहेत जी तरंगत राहतात. माणसं या बेटांवर शेती करतात. तसेच तेथे जगातील काही दुर्मिळ प्राणीही आढळतात. दरवर्षी हजारो पर्यटक या बेटांना भेट देतात.

४. रुपकुंड तलाव - उत्तराखंड
उत्तराखंडात हिमालयाच्या कुशीत १६,५०० फुटांवर रुपकुंड तलाव आहे. इथे कोणत्याही प्रकारची मानवी वस्ती अस्तित्वात नाही. तरीही इथे नवव्या शतकातले ६०० मानवी सांगाडे सापडले आहेत. हे सांगाडे इथे कसे आले त्याची कोणालाही माहिती नाही.

५. कुंभलगड किल्ल्याच्या भिंती - राजस्थान
चीनच्या ग्रेट वॉलबद्दल तर आपल्याला माहिती असतं. पण, राजस्थानच्या कुंभलगड किल्ल्याला असलेली ३६ किलोमीटरची भिंत ही जगातील दुसऱ्या क्रमांकाची सर्वात लांब भिंत आहे. या भिंतीत जवळपास ३०० मंदिरं आहेत.

६. कोलकत्यातील वडाचे झाड
कोलकत्याच्या बोटॅनिकल गार्डनमध्ये असलेले हे वडाचे झाड म्हणजे एक आश्चर्य आहे. हे वडाचे झाड म्हणजे एक जंगलच आहे. ते २०० वर्ष जुने आहे. ते इतके पसरले आहे की त्याचा परीघ जवळपास २ किलोमीटर इतका प्रचंड आहे.

७. चुंबकीय टेकडी - लडाख
लेह लडाख येथे असलेली चुंबकीय टेकडी हे एक मोठे आश्चर्य आहे. इथे एका विशिष्ट जागी न्यूट्रल गीअरमध्ये गाडी उभी केल्यास ती आपोआप या टेकडीकडे आकर्षित होते.

८. कोडीन्ही गाव - केरळ
केरळमधील या २००० लोकवस्ती असलेल्या गावात तब्बल ३५० जुळ्यांचा जन्म झाला आहे. दर १००० लोकांमागे ४२ जुळ्यांचा जन्म या गावात नोंदवला गेला आहे.

९. पंबन बेटावरचे तरंगते दगड - रामेश्वरम
रामेश्वरमनजीकच्या पंबन बेटावरुन रामाने रामसेतू बांधला अशी आख्यायिका आहे. याच बेटावर असे काही दगड आढळतात जे पाण्यावर तरंगतात. रामाने सेतू बांधण्यासाठी हेच दगड वापरले असावेत अशी समजूत आहे.

१०. झाडांच्या मुळांचे पूल - चेरापूंजी, मेघालय
मेघालयमधील लोकांनी इथल्या जंगलातील झाडांच्या विस्तृत मुळांना असा काही आकार दिला की त्या मुळांचे साकव तयार झाले. गावातील लोक हे साकव दळणवळणासाठी वापरतात.

११. लटकते खांब - लेपक्षी, आंध्र प्रदेश
आंध्र प्रदेशातील लेपक्षी मंदिरातील ७० खांबांपैकी एक खांब असा आहे जो कोणत्याही आधाराशिवाय लटकतो. या खांबाच्या खालून एखादा कपडा किंवा ओढणीही आरपार जाऊ शकतो.

१२. महाबलीपुरममधील झुलता दगड - तामिळनाडू
भौतिकशास्त्राच्या सर्व नियमांना तिलांजली देणारा एक मोठा खडक महाबलिपूरम येथे आहे. त्याला प्रेमाने कृष्णाचा लोण्याचा गोळा असंही म्हटलं जातं. कोणत्याही आधाराशिवाय हा पाच मीटर व्यासाचा खडक एका उतरत्या पृष्ठभागावर गेली अनेक शतकं उभा आहे.

१३. बडा इमामबरा - लखनऊ, उत्तर प्रदेश
लखनऊतील १८व्या शतकात बांधलेल्या या महालाचा राजदरबार ५० मीटर रुंद आहे. विशेष म्हणजे इतक्या रुंद दरबारात एकही खांब नाही. वास्तूविशारदांमध्ये या दरबाराच्या बांधकामाविषयी आश्चर्य व्यक्त केलं जातं.

१४. मोटरसायकल बुलेट बाबाचं मंदिर - राजस्थान
एका व्यक्तीच्या रस्त्यात झालेल्या अपघातानंतर त्याची बुलेट पोलिसांनी पोलीस स्थानकात आणली. दुसऱ्या दिवशी ती बुलेट अपघाताच्या ठिकाणी सापडली. पोलिसांनी ती पुन्हा आणून तिला साखळदंडांनी बांधून ठेवलं. तरीही ती अपघाताच्या ठिकाणी गेली. ती कशी गेली याची कोणालाच माहिती नाही. आता मात्र या बुलेटची पूजा केली जाते. प्रत्येक वाटसरू या बुलेट बाबाला वंदन करतो आणि मगच पुढचा प्रवास करतो.

१५. आशियातील स्वच्छ गाव - मावलिंनॉग, मेघालय
मेघालयमधील चेरापुंजीजवळ असलेलं हे गाव आशियातील सर्वात स्वच्छ गाव म्हणून प्रसिद्ध आहे. तसंच या गावात साक्षरतेचं प्रमाण १०० टक्के इतकं असून इथे प्रत्येकाला अस्खलित इंग्रजी बोलता येतं.
