The Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management in collaboration with the DST-funded Technology Enabling Centre (TEC), Mizoram University, inaugurated the Six-Day Online Advanced Research Methodology Workshop on "Transforming Academic Research Outputs into Patents, Copyrights, Products and Services." The workshop was held on 10 August 2026, and attracted 150 participants, including faculty members, research scholars, and postgraduate students from universities and higher educational institutions across India. The programme aims to strengthen research capabilities while promoting innovation, intellectual property creation, technology transfer, and commercialization of academic research outcomes.
The inaugural programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr Pankaj Kumar, Head of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Mizoram University, who welcomed the Chief Guest, Prof. Vanlalchhawna, Dean, School of Economics, Management and Information Sciences (SEMIS), distinguished guests, faculty members, and participants. He emphasized the importance of sound research methodology in tourism, management, and the humanities for addressing contemporary societal challenges and achieving sustainable development.
Dr Rajesh R, Workshop Coordinator, presented the scope of the programme, highlighting that the workshop is designed to bridge the gap between academic research and practical outcomes such as patents, copyrights, technologies, products, and services. Dr Lalhmingliana Renthlei, Coordinator of the Technology Enabling Centre, introduced the mission of the DST-funded TEC, MZU, emphasizing its role in connecting academia, industry, entrepreneurs, and local communities to translate research into technologies that address regional challenges.
Delivering the chief address, Prof. Vanlalchhawna underscored the importance of research, development, and innovation in national growth. He encouraged researchers to move beyond publications by generating patents, technologies, products, and services that solve real-world problems. Highlighting initiatives such as Startup India, he urged participants to strengthen linkages with the MSME sector and contribute to entrepreneurship and societal development through impactful research.
The six-day workshop features lectures and hands-on training by eminent experts from leading institutions across the country, including Prof. L. S. Sharma (Mizoram University), Prof. Kasilingam (Pondicherry University), Dr Thiyagu (Central University of Karnataka), Dr Ganesh Kumar (Central University of Hyderabad), Dr Pankaj Vishwakarma (IIM Visakhapatnam), Dr Ramswarup Bhaskar (IIM Jammu), Dr Muthupandian (Central University of Tamil Nadu), Dr Arun Raaza (VISTAS, Chennai), Dr Priyakrushna Mohanty (Christ University) and Dr Ranjit Singh (Baharampur University). Participants will receive intensive training in systematic literature review, bibliometric analysis, science mapping, meta-analysis, qualitative and quantitative data analysis, Structural Equation Modelling (SEM), artificial intelligence tools for research, intellectual property rights, patents, copyrights, technology transfer, commercialization, and transforming research outputs into products and services.
The inaugural programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr Jacob L. Pulamte, Research Scholar, Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Mizoram University, who expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, university authorities, resource persons, organizing committee, and participants for their enthusiastic support in making the workshop a successful beginning.
