Mizoram University is proud to announce that Dr. Sayan Dey, a faculty member from the Department of Mass Communication, recently presented his research at the prestigious 76th Annual International Communication Association (ICA) Conference, held in Cape Town, South Africa, from June 4–8, 2026.

Dr. Dey's paper, "Contingent Framing and Political Legitimization: Identity, Media and Trust in Multi-ethnic Societies," tackles one of the most pressing challenges in contemporary political communication. By integrating macro-level media systems, meso-level framing practices, and micro-level audience understandings, the study proposes a new, conditional paradigm of media effects. This research advances broader global discourses on electoral communication, identity, and trust within multi-ethnic societies—a subject deeply relevant both locally and globally.

Reflecting the high impact and quality of this work, Dr. Dey secured an exceptional lineup of competitive travel grants and fellowships from both international and national bodies:

Michael Haley Travel Grant (International Communication Association)

ICA Political Communication Divisional Grant

ICSSR Travel Grant (Indian Council of Social Science Research)

Mizoram University (MZU) Travel Grant

Mizoram University extends its heartiest congratulations to Dr. Sayan Dey on this spectacular achievement, which brings immense pride and international visibility to our institution!
