# performing habitat-species associations,
# Analysis of Similarity (ANOSIM) and
# Similarity Percentages (SIMPER) analyses.
# The workshop will also teach how to access, download and use data from various online biodiversity databases.

About the course:

This course will introduce you to the art of identifying the plants around you, what are some common plant families and how to identify them. We will also explore some interesting peculiar characters useful in plant identification.

COURSE CONTENTS:

• History and introduction to plant taxonomy and nomenclature,

• Overview of classification systems,

• Important morphological characters useful for identification,

• Important plant families and their characteristics,

• Use of different resources for plant identification- Flora, herbarium, web resources

THREE DAYS ONLINE WORKSHOP

“CREATING DETAILED DATA VISUALIZATIONS USING R”

14-16 November, 2022 (6:30 pm - 8:00 pm IST)

R programming language is one of most commonly used statistical tools in the life sciences domain. It has specifically authored packages for analyzing and visualizing ecological/biodiversity data.

This workshop will introduce you to data visualization using the R programming language. You will learn to create detailed plots using base R graphics and 'ggplot2' library which is one of the most widely used packages for data visualization in R today.

Topics:

Plotting using base R,
brief introduction to the ggplot2 package,
quick plotting using qplot function,
plotting different types of graphs (histograms, barcharts, piecharts, scatter and line plots, boxplots as well as ribbon and violin plots)
Using ggplot function followed by editing and customizations of these plots to make them publication ready.
