1991 July 1st Govt of India recognized National Doctors day. This is celebrated in the memory of Dr.Bidhan Chandra Ray in order to pay honor to the entire medical profession. The most famous legendary physician, surgeon of repute and the second chief minister of West Bengal who served in office for second longest tenure. Dr.Roy was born on July 1,1882 and died in harness on the same date 1962, aged 80 years.
Dr.Roy was honored with the country's highest civilian award Bharat Ratna on Feb 4th 1961.
