In Vedic times, students would go to the forest gurukulas and perform yajña using fire and wood, offering discipline and sacrifice to receive divine knowledge. In Kali-yuga, the form has changed, but the essence remains the same. Books are made from wood—once part of the forest itself—and today that wood carries wisdom instead of flames. What was earlier offered into fire is now offered through books, spreading knowledge from hand to hand. Thus, the yajña of this age is book distribution, where the forest still serves humanity, not by burning, but by enlightening minds.

In Vedic times, animal sacrifice was not an act of violence or cruelty, but a rare and highly regulated spiritual ritual performed by realized sages. The purpose was purification and elevation of the soul, not killing for pleasure. Through powerful Vedic mantras, the soul within the animal was benefited and often promoted to a human body in the next life, proving the potency of the mantra and the spiritual authority of the ritual. As time progressed and people lost purity, discipline, and mantra power, such practices were completely prohibited. The Vedas then emphasized a higher and safer process for this age—sacrifice of ego and ignorance through devotion, chanting of the holy names, and compassion toward all living beings. True Vedic culture ultimately leads from external rituals to inner transformation, always standing on the principle of ahimsa and spiritual upliftment of every soul.
