🇮🇹 Just landed in Italy? Here's your essential student checklist. Save this post you'll thank yourself later! 👇
1️⃣ Get a SIM Card 📱
Your first priority. You'll need an Italian number for OTPs, banking, university communication, deliveries, and other registrations. Popular providers include TIM, Vodafone, iliad, and WINDTRE.
2️⃣ Get your Codice Fiscale 🪪
Italy's tax identification number. You'll need it to open a bank account, sign a rental agreement, complete university enrollment, apply for your Permesso di Soggiorno, and much more. If you don't have one yet, visit the Agenzia delle Entrate. (Some universities also help students obtain it.)
3️⃣ Complete your University Enrollment 🎓
Submit any pending documents, verify your identity (if required), pay your university fees (if applicable), and complete your matriculation. Carry photocopies of all your important documents—just to be safe. Your enrollment certificate will also be useful for other administrative procedures.
4️⃣ Submit your Permesso di Soggiorno Kit 📮
Collect and submit the kit at a Poste Italiane Sportello Amico office. Keep the Ricevuta (receipt) safely—it acts as proof that you've applied until your Questura appointment. It also helps if you're travelling while waiting for your residence permit.
5️⃣ Submit your Scholarship Documents (ISEE) 📄
If you're applying for regional scholarships (DSU, EDISU, LAZIODISCO, etc.), complete your ISEE/ISEE Parificato through an authorized CAF before the deadline. Missing this step could affect your scholarship eligibility.
6️⃣ Open an Italian Bank Account 💳
Most universities and scholarship authorities transfer refunds and scholarships to an Italian or SEPA bank account. Compare the banks available in your city, or consider Revolut, which now offers Italian IBANs.
✨ Every university and region may have slightly different procedures. Always check your university's International Office for the latest requirements and deadlines.
