Magnavem Could Be The World’s First Nuclear Powered Airliner
New designs of a spaceship-like aircraft propose a supersonic and eco-friendly flight. The futuristic design for the HSP Magnavem shows a streamlined ship with the ability to reach a top speed of Mach 1.5 (1,150 mph). This hypersonic plane would be able to have the duration of current flights and it will only take three hours to travel from London to New York.
As if these features are not impressive enough, it will feature a compact fusion reactor to power and will produce zero carbon emissions. Oscar Vinals, the designer of the craft hopes that this will revolutionize the aeronautic industry and the whole industry will one day run on compact fusion reactors.
Nuclear fusion is not damaging to the environment. It is the process that goes on in the sun and the compact fusion reactors will replicate the process inside a magnetic container and release energy from hydrogen in a controlled fashion to produce power that we can use.
According to Mr. Vinals, the Magnavem will be able to carry 500 passengers at a time and can be recharged extremely quickly due to the present technologies. He has been working on the designs for more than a year and they also feature a carbon dioxide cleaning system which adds to the environmental benefits of the aircraft.
Even though it sounds like an ambitious dream for now, technology has surprised us time and again. Who knows, one day the Magnavem might actually be a reality.

TEAM ARROW had participated in the SAE AERO DESIGN MICRO CLASS COMPETITION 2017 and has achieved stellar success by standing 4th among all the colleges of India . Team ARROW has been becoming better with each passing competition and has been making Nirma proud.
After achieving stellar success in SAE Aerodesign Challenge series over the past two years, Team ARROW has started preparing to represent Nirma University in various aeromodelling events this year also, some of which are described below:
1. AVUSI SUAS
The AUVSI SUAS Competition is designed to foster interest in Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), stimulate interest in UAS technologies and careers, and to engage students in a challenging UAS mission. The competition requires students to design, integrate, report on, and demonstrate a UAS capable of autonomous flight and navigation, remote sensing via onboard payload sensors, and ex*****on of a specific set of tasks. The competition has been held annually since 2002.

2. SAE Aerodesign Challenge (Micro Category)
The purpose of the SAEISS Aero Design Challenge is to promote and develop Indian expertise and experience in unmanned systems technologies at the university and college levels. Even small scale unmanned vehicles are complex systems requiring a well planned and executed design approach. In addition, safety considerations are important factors in this competition as in any other vehicle design project.

With this agenda, the team selection for the year 2017-18 is scheduled on 28th July, 2017 Friday.
Students from all departments are invited to appear for the aptitude-cum-selection test. The generalized (not necessarily fixed) roles for students from various departments are given below:
Mechanical - Design and fabrication of air-frame.
Non-mechanical - To equip the manufactured air-frame with modular parts, a robust power system, a fully modular distributed imagery system, an autopilot, and a custom ground station.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS REGARDING APTITUDE TEST (Do read):
1) Students of all the branches and year can appear
2) It is essential for the student to register themselves by form attached
3) Test will be of 1 hour starting from 04:00 PM
4) Test will be consisting of General Aptitude and basics of aeromodelling.
5) Selected students would appear in an interview (schedule to be declared later).
6) Students are advised to read the rule book of the said competitions.
The venue for the test would be informed soon.
