Fundamentally, the lantern provides light. Light, in its context helps lead the way forward, towards the future and pushes aside the surrounding darkness. Where long path before us is useless without the light from the lantern to show us the way.

In current pandemic situation, we all need a way to move forward. Let's hope for the best.

Lord Krishna by Manidipa....

But for me, things are simple. “I don’t have any grand aspirations, I just want to keep painting Krishna.”

I love to paint the Lord, because it keeps me absorbed in Him. When I’m painting, I have to research the kind of jewellery He’s wearing, or look in the Shastra to find out what exactly I can and cannot depict, or if I’m painting His feet and I’m not satisfied, I’ll be thinking constantly about them until I get them right.

“Painting,” I conclude, “Is my way of feeling connected with Krishna.”

Adivasi girl painting from Manidipa....

Through this painting, I have tried to portrait adivasi girl, she love the fresh air and the greenery that rural life has to offer. Houses made of clay and straw roofs, open courtyards, small vegetable gardens lining homestead lands, gatherings on various occasions and the strong community bonds, are what make life worth living. I have tried to define beauty of a rural girl.

In Mahatma Gandhi's words, who said, “The soul of India lives in its villages”. This painting dedicated to such beautiful adivasi girl of my country.

I am Manidipa Sarkar - an artist, painting is my passion, painting since 7 years. I make Oil paintings, acrylic paintings, glass paintings.

My paintings are guided by intuition and are an extension of my authentic, true self. I work in layers of acrylic paint, experimenting with a variety of tools to make marks and incorporating images through drawing with paint. The painting becomes an almost dream like vision bringing together layers of colours, marks, shapes, lines and images.

This glass painting is done by me and named it ‘Devi Shakti.’
