National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad's FID Graduate Pranav Karle has won the SIT Furniture Design Award in the Cabinet Category. His graduation project, ' Pathar Dil' was supported by Studio Chisel, founded by FID Alumni Aditya Somway.

Pathar Dil is a sculptural cabinet inspired by Hyderabad's ancient granite rock formations among the oldest in the world and an enduring symbol of the city's identity. The project draws inspiration from “Pathar Dil”, a heart-shaped rock formation whose name translating to "Heart of Stone."

The cabinet reinterprets the emotional and physical presence of this geological landmark through contemporary furniture design. Its composition consists of four storage chambers, subtly referencing the four chambers of the human heart. Arranged in a balanced form, these volumes echo the way granite boulders naturally rest against one another across Hyderabad's historic rockscapes.

Faceted planes, softened transitions, and bold geometry translate the rugged character of stone into refined craftsmanship. At the center, a cast aluminium element connects all four chambers while creating the illusion of a floating assembly.

More than a functional object, Pathar-Dil reinterprets Hyderabad's unique rock landscapes, bringing their geological presence, character, and cultural significance into contemporary interiors.
