About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading,

TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalk videos and live speakers combine to create deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.) About TED

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 25 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. The annual TED Conference invites the world's leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes. Their talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Al Gore, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The annual TED Conference takes place in Long Beach, California, with simulcast in Palm Springs; TEDGlobal is held each year in Oxford, UK. TED's media initiatives include TED.com, where new TEDTalks are posted daily, and the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as the ability for any TEDTalk to be translated by volunteers worldwide. TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world are given the opportunity to put their wishes into action; TEDx, which offers individuals or groups a way to organize independent, TED-like events around the world; and the TEDFellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to become part of the TED community and, with its help, amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities. “Whenever you're seeing news channels saying why I am number one that's all based on 50,000 boxes in a country of 1.4 billion people, and by now it's been scientifically proven almost that TRP has come from shouting and screaming, it comes from tabloid contents, it comes from sensationalism, you don't get TRPs from doing serious programming necessarily.”

-Vikram Chandra
JOURNALIST AND FOUNDER, EDITORJI

Vikram talks about how linear news TV channels are on a slippery slope due to the rise of live streaming and OTT platforms and how the future is bound to be all digital. The current problem of fragmented digital news has to be tackled by companies and media houses that aim to be the face of digital news. Vikram talks about the AI algorithm of his digital news app, Editorji, and how it is the solution to the above-said problem in the news world.

“It's one of the few places that we can go and sit and watch someone with curiosity and generosity and not look at them with suspicion behind the mask, the suspicion that oh my god are they going to give us something. I think the theater has a huge role in healing us from this pandemic.”
-Quasar Thakore Padamsee
FOUNDER, QTP ENT PVT LTD & THESPO

Quasar believes that theatre is reinventing itself. The shared experience of viewing live theatre with strangers, who you look at with curiosity and gratitude, makes it indispensable. Their happiness permeates within you, and that is what enabled the theatre to have a healing role in the pandemic.

"Think of the story you want to tell a few decades from now and start writing it today, because our world today is essentially, a grand storytelling competition. We are all striving to present our own national, cultural and personal stories in the most persuasive manner."
-Palki Sharma Upadhyay
EXECUTIVE EDITOR, WION

Check out Palki Sharma's talk at TEDxMICA: Map the Gap 2022, where she beautifully uses the analogy of ‘Katha’ and ‘Kathakar’ to land the point of how it’s not about just the story but the way it’s put across by the ‘Kathakar’ and how by following the five steps of ethos, pathos, logos, metaphor, and brevity, one can create value for consumers.
