Sharing Dr. Shreeraj Shah’s (Director, LJ Institute of Pharmacy) perspective on a recent survey conducted at one of the Ahmedabad-based universities exploring Gen Z nutrition and grocery behavior. The findings indicate a positive shift toward health-conscious consumption, including increased intake of fruits, vegetables, and preference for organic foods.
However, the data also reveals that this awareness is largely fragmented and perception-driven, with key gaps in protein diversity, structured meal planning, and nutrition literacy. While a significant proportion prefers protein-rich diets, reliance on convenient and dairy-based sources persists.
There is a clear need to promote plant-based protein integration including pulses, millets, soy, nuts, and seeds, supported by evidence-based nutrition education. Bridging this gap can help translate awareness into sustainable, long-term health outcomes.
