Eco-schools programme
A sustainable schools programme initiated to help school students connect with and take action on environmental issues of concern to the school and the immediate community. Eco-Schools offers International Certification and enables students to become environmentally responsible citizens. Eco-Schools programme in India
In India the programme focuses on 5 core thematic areas. T

he programme follows a 7 step methodology which needs to be adopted by participating schools. Eco-Schools programme provides an excellent opportunity to students to learn to identify environmental issues of concern to their schools and the immediate community. It provides teacher and students a structured methodology, to put into place an action plan to address these issues. Certification:
An international certification programme. For certification, the programme takes into consideration activities and projects taken up by schools and linkages drawn with the curriculum. As part of assessment, schools need to submit a report of the activities and projects undertaken. How do I join the programme? The programme in India is presently open to the primary classes (I-V). If you are a high school, students from your primary section can be involved in the Eco-Schools programme. The programme is open to schools from any streams – state board, CBSE, ICSE and International Schools. The programme is being offered in the English language.

CEE, in collaboration with Rashtriya Manavsangrahalay, Bhopal, successfully hosted a two-day camp and the Eco School India- Young Reporter for the Environment (YRE) India National Award 2025 ceremony on 29th and 30th October.

The event brought together young changemakers, educators, parents, and schools from across India. Over the two days, participants explored the museum's exhibits, indoor and outdoor exhibitions, tribal and ancient Indian settlements, and the technological park, 20000 year old cave paintings and learned how Indian ancient practices were sustainable and climate-resilient

We celebrated the work done by our young changemakers and educators by recognizing their efforts. Dr. Amitabh Pande, Director, Rashtriya Manavsangrahalay, felicitated the YRE Award 2025 to 21 winners and 32 runners up from across India and the Green Flag Award 2025 to 31 Eco-Schools India schools.

60 schools from across India from 7 different states were awarded the Handprint Award 2023-24 under the Eco-School Programme for their excellence in environment education and sustainability initiatives in the school. The award was given during a Teachers' Camp organized by the Paryavaran Mitra Programme, by the Centre for Environment Education (CEE) at the Scouts and Guide Adventure Institute in Pachmarhi, Madhya Pradesh, India on 23rd May 2024.
