LAST DAY TO ENROLL! Cities Matter: Understanding How Indian Cities Work, by Manvita Baradi.

What makes a city great? And What makes it terrible? What does YOUR city do for you, and what can YOU do to make it better?

This course was first conceived by, Manvita Baradi, founder and director, Urban Management Centre in 2005. It has subsequently been run in many forms and with different pedagogies, including at CEPT university and recently at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) as part of the 96th Foundation Program.

This iteration of the course is dedicated to in-service professionals. It uses narrative elements and case studies to introduce the various technical, administrative, and governing structures that make Indian cities what they are. They help learners relate to their lived experiences, while also absorbing the bigger picture and contextualizing some significant experiments in urban development.

Are you a decision maker in a city? Or perhaps you are support decision-making for the government or in the development sector? How do we collect good data in Indian cities? How do we ensure transparent and efficient program monitoring and evaluation?
The need for good data has never been greater. National missions like SBM, AMRUT, and NULM, require intense and regular data collection and management.
The Urban Management Centre has been working with cities all over the world to enable data driven decision making processes. In this course, we will explore the fundamentals of urban data gathering, designing implementable survey forms, and some digital tools to enable data collection.
We are collaborating with Solstice – a non-profit technology platform for this introductory course in urban data.

Public Lecture: Enumeration for Inclusion: Identifying Sanitation Workers in cities of India

Who deals with my f***l waste? Who ensures the occupational health and safety of sanitation workers? How can I ensure their access to social entitlements? How can I engage with them effectively, facilitate their social inclusion, and support them in achieving their aspirations?
If you have asked any of these questions, join us for this public lecture.
We will share our learnings from carrying out an exhaustive enumeration of sanitation workers across the six largest cities of Odisha. We will also discuss our learnings from working together with the State government, city governments and the community of sanitation workers to build a robust enumeration strategy and a digital system to support the entire process.
