The term “tentmaking” comes from the book of Acts which references how the Apostle Paul earned money while making tents in order to support himself and his ministry as a witness to Christ.
Simply put, a tentmaker is someone who follows Jesus and supports themselves financially while living a kingdom lifestyle wherever they go.

+ 61% of digital nomads are married
+ 26% of digital nomads have children under 18 years old
+ 70% of digital nomads work LESS than 40+ hours per week - largely because their cost of living is flexible and low.

In Acts 18:1-4, Paul supports himself and his ministry with money made by making tents. This is where the term “tentmaking” was born. For Paul, it was making literal tents to support himself while on mission. For modern-day Christians, the term tentmaker is used to describe any Christian who financially supports themself while living a life on mission.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Paul made tents in the communities that he visited. This gave him the flexibility to move and travel as God called him to. In doing this, Paul made tentmaking a ministry of its own. He witnessed to people as he made tents and used the money he earned to not only support himself but also to benefit the broader communities that he was in. His work became part of his ministry.

Fundraising is an option but it's not the only option as so many of us have been taught.
