"Survey of Youth Not in Formal Education or Regular Employment"
The NSS Unit of Govt. Degree College, Gandacherra observed the Day-2 of their 7-Days NSS Special Camp by undertaking the "Survey of Youth Not in Formal Education or Regular Employment". The Volunteers of the NSS Unit of GDC, Gandacherra, were formed into separate teams and sent out in different directions covering the three villages of Laxmipur, 30-Cut, and Muchkumbhir. The aim of the survey was to identify and interview the social, economic and social background of the youth aged between 15-29 yrs. of age who were neither pursuing any formal education or training and were not also regularly employed. The NSS Volunteers interviewed the villagers and discussed the social issues causing the high rate of school and college drop-outs in the area. The major finding we found from the survey was that financial constraints, lack of training and employment opportunities, and lack of communication were among the most pertinent reasons behind the high rates of school and college dropouts and unemployability in the region.
