What if cells could be encouraged to produce much more of their own collagen?

That question helped Tel Aviv University PhD student Bar Shahar take first place at Falling Walls Lab Tel Aviv 2026 and earn a spot at the Global Finale in Berlin this November.

Bar was one of 13 early-career researchers from six Israeli universities and research institutions who had just three minutes to pitch an idea with the potential to break down a wall in science, health or technology.

Their ideas ranged from mapping coastal waters from space and restoring degraded soils to PFAS-free coatings and more affordable cultivated-meat production.

On September 9, Falling Walls Lab comes to Tel Aviv University, bringing Israel’s emerging researchers, innovators, and changemakers to one stage.
