The root meaning the word: ראש & שנה - HEBREW we will review the holiday term, the root and the true meaning of the word - New year - ראש שנה.

and today the sign (שלט)
Danger building site/Danger under construction.
The word for "danger" in Hebrew is - "סכנה"
but unlike English that uses the words "Building site" or "Under construction"
in Hebrew, we simply say "כאן בונים" which means "here we build"
or "the act of construction take place here"

and today a sign that you normally will see on the back of doors in closed shops.
"back soon" - "תכף אשוב"
The word "תיכך" means in Hebrew "soon" "very soon"
Examples: "תיכף נלך" -"we shall go very soon", "תיכף נתחיל"- "soon we shall start"
The word "אשוב" is a verb that means "I will be back"
this verb shares the same root as the word "answer" -"תשובה" in Hebrew.
and if you wondering why?
maybe because sometimes an answer is sort of a comeback

and today for the weekend.
"exit"- "יציאה", and,"Emergency exit"- "יציאת חירום"
the word "חירום" means "Emergency"
for example, "Emergency services" - "שירותי חירום"
again like the previous post, this form is ""
this time in the plural.
the word "לצאת" and "יציאה" also means "To go out"
so, go out and have fun

Another day another sign(שלט). and today the sign 'פינת עישון' which means 'smoking corner' or 'smoking area'.
this combination of two words in Hebrew called 'סמיכות'.
in this case, the word- 'פינה'-'corner' and the word 'עישון'-'smoking' put them together and get a new word or meaning(smokers corner-פינת עישון).
If the first word is ending with the letter 'ה' the 'ה' turns in to a 'ת'.
example: meal - 'ארוחה' and morning -'בוקר' turn to 'ארוחת בוקר' - breakfast.
and in some places, you can see small signs with the word 'פינה' and some other words here are some examples.
פינה+ קפה (coffee) = פינת קפה - coffee corner
פינה + ישיבה (sitting) = פינת ישיבה - sitting area
פינה + עבודה (work) = פינת עבודה - working area
להתראות מחר- see you tomorrow

so the first one "אסור לעשן" which mean "smoking is prohibited''
The word 'אסור' is used to say "not allowed" or "prohibited" and parents like to say it a lot to there children.
it also in use for- someone is in chains or someone in prison. both of them are not allowed to move or to get free.
