In the midst of these difficult days, we take a moment to remember the passing of Henry George on October 29 1897, 126 years ago to this day. His death came just four days before the New York City mayoral election for which he campaigned until the end.
Commentators at the time disagreed on whether it was the largest funeral in New York history or the largest since the death of Abraham Lincoln. So much so, did the principles of Economic Justice that he laid out in his book "Progress and Poverty" touch and inspire people at the time.
We think about how, had his principles of the socialization of land and natural resource rents become a lived reality where we would be now, and continue to aspire and yearn for the healing of the world and the brotherhood of man.

The accepted convention is that in order to maintain a decent standard of living, households need to spend no more than 30% of their disposable income on housing.
What happens when it's more than 50%...where does one go from there?
This paper looks at Vienna's policy for housing for all as an example to build a system where every resident of Israel benefits from access to stable, quality housing, and at the same time, maximum freedom to choose where to live, without having their future burdened by heavy debt and huge expenses.
Do you think social housing plays a role in Henry George's ideas? Is there a way to have housing that is owned 'socially' but still governed by the market?

How does every one of ten billion voices of ours get heard in the world conversation?
" The technology to achieve and implement the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals and ultimately heal the planet already exist and are being talked about over millions of world-zoom-conversations daily. The barrier is only in our misunderstanding of what is public and what is private ownership, how to collectively spread the responsibility and how to individually take responsibility.
When we can release ourselves from this tiny, giant obstacle, our individual voices will find their definition and pitch among the whole and everything will be possible. "

"Herzl...envisioned the future Jewish state to be a "third way" between capitalism and socialism, with a developed welfare program and public ownership of the main natural resources. Industry, agriculture and trade were organized on a cooperative basis. Along with many other progressive Jews of the day, such as Emma Lazarus, Louis Brandeis, Albert Einstein, and Franz Oppenheimer, Herzl desired to enact the land reforms proposed by the American political economist Henry George. Specifically, they called for a land value tax. He called his mixed economic model "Mutualism", a term derived from French utopian socialist thinking. Women would have equal voting rights—as they had in the Zionist movement from the Second Zionist Congress onwards."
