*STUDY SUMMARY OF THE BOOK OF COLOSSIANS CHAPTER 3*
Our study from this chapter expanded on the instructions believers are given to live out their new identity in Christ by focusing on heavenly things, "putting to death" earthly sins like immorality and anger, and "putting on" virtues such as compassion, humility, and love.
Apostle Paul emphasizes unity in Christ and directs that all actions, words, and household relationships be governed by gratitude and the peace of Christ.
✅ *Verses 1-4* - Instructs on Setting Our Minds on Things Above:
Reasons being because believers have been raised with Christ, hence our focus should be on spiritual realities rather than earthly desires, as a believer's true life is hidden with Christ in God.
✅ *Verses 5-9* - Instructs us to "Put to Death the Old Self completely": The who you were before becoming "Born-Again'. Some still accommodate their old self...A new creation should no longer enjoy the ungodly lifestyle that is a threat to robbing one's salvation.
Believers in Christ are told to mortify (put to death) sinful behaviors: sexual immorality, impurity, evil desires, greed (labeled as idolatry), anger, malice, slander, and lying.
✅ *Verses 10-14* - Instructs to Put On the New Self :
Believers are to clothe themselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, patience, and love, reflecting their renewal in the image of their Creator.
✅ *Verses 15-17* - Instructs to ensure the "Rule of Christ in in our lives". We must demonstrate the character of Christ in our deeds..., don't just preach it, but live it.
✅ Verses 15-17 - Instructs to make good effort and allow the peace of Christ to rule in ourI hearts, and the knowledge of the word of Christ should dwell in Us richly, resulting in thankful worship and living all aspects of our life in abiding completely in our Lord Jesus Christ
✅ *Verses 18-25* - Instructs on directions for Believers.Households.
The chapter concludes with instructions for family and work relationships, urging wives, husbands, children, parents, and servants to honor God in their respective roles.
