There has always been a debate in the Krav Maga world between people who grew up in civilian systems, with belts, ranks and structured programs, and those who came from the military, security and operational world. I respect both sides, but sometimes the argument about who is more "authentic" becomes almost ridiculous.
A belt is important. Rank represents training, knowledge and years of work. But a belt does not automatically give you operational experience. At the same time, military experience does not automatically make someone a great instructor.
For me, the real quality of an instructor is measured by something much simpler: does he understand reality? Can he recognize danger, understand the risks and give practical solutions that actually make sense when things go wrong?
Someone who grew up in the military or security world usually sees Krav Maga differently. A technique is only part of the solution. You learn to think about what happens before the fight, what happens around you, what happens when the plan fails, when another person gets involved, when a weapon appears or when the "perfect technique" simply doesn't work.
This becomes even more important when teaching professionals. A civilian instructor who teaches security but has never worked as a security professional may know excellent Krav Maga, but he doesn't have the experience of actually doing the job. If you don't understand the environment, procedures, pressure and responsibility of the person standing in front of you, you may be selling him a dream instead of giving him experience.
The same goes for police training. If you've never been there, never worked in that environment and don't understand its reality and limitations, you need to be honest about it. Otherwise, it becomes very easy to fight for ego instead of demonstrating professionalism.
That's why I don't believe you should choose an instructor because of his uniform, logo, organization or belt. Look at what he has actually done. Look at what he teaches. Ask questions. Use common sense. And most importantly, read what his students say about him.
Certificates tell you what someone studied. Belts tell you what rank someone achieved. Experience tells you what someone has actually lived through. But the real test of an instructor is the people he has trained.
Respect the belts. Respect operational experience. Respect different paths. Just don't confuse rank with experience, or theory with reality.
Krav Maga was never created to look good. It was created to work.

I DIDN’T GROW UP IN “CLASSICAL” KRAV MAGA.
My background has always been in martial arts, especially full-contact training.
When I joined the military, I connected deeply with Krav Maga. But I didn’t just want to practice it. I wanted to understand it, question it, test it, and find out what actually works when things become real.
For the past 30 years, I have been teaching and training in military, police, security, and civilian environments.
That experience shaped the way I see Krav Maga today.
I didn’t build my approach around politics, organizations, belts, ranks, or the idea that something must be done a certain way simply because someone important once said so.
I built it around principles.
Reality.
Simplicity.
Efficiency.
Adaptability.
And the ability to perform under pressure.
About 90% of what I teach comes directly from the principles and training programs found across the different branches and systems of Krav Maga.
Anyone who actually knows my training knows this.
The foundations are there.
The difference is in the way I teach them, connect them, test them, and adapt them to reality.
Over the years, I have taught around the world, conducted instructor courses and seminars, and trained thousands of people from different backgrounds and levels.
And no, I don’t carry a Krav Maga belt or rank.
Not because I have something against ranks.
They simply don’t define me.
My students don’t need to know what color belt I wear.
They need to know whether what I teach them makes sense.
Whether they can perform it under pressure.
Whether it gives them confidence and capability.
And most importantly, whether it can help them when it truly matters.
I respect the history of Krav Maga.
I respect its principles.
I respect the people who built and developed it.
But I chose to walk my own path.
Not to reinvent Krav Maga.
To keep learning, testing, questioning and developing the way I teach it.
After 30 years, thousands of students, countless hours on the mat, and experience in military, police and security training, I still believe in one simple principle:
Don’t train for the belt.
Train for the moment you may actually need it.

Years of dedication, loyalty, growth, challenges, and countless hours of training alongside people who became much more than colleagues, they became family.
For more than a decade, I have had the honor of being part of an incredible organization built on professionalism, values, mutual respect, and genuine care for one another.
Receiving the titles of Senior Master Instructor and Technical Advisor is a tremendous honor for me. But beyond the titles themselves, what truly means the most is the opportunity to be part of something bigger, an organization that constantly inspires, supports, and pushes all of us to grow both professionally and personally.
I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Marty Cale and Jenny Cale for more than 10 years of trust, friendship, support, and belief in me.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to contribute, influence, teach, learn, and continue growing within such an amazing family.
A huge thank you as well to all the instructors and members of the organization.
