Today, we also remember our friend and colleague, Dr. Marcel Frailich Kaplun, who was murdered by terrorists alongside her husband, Dror, in their home in Kibbutz Be’eri on October 7.
Marcel dedicated her life to science education. She was a chemistry teacher, researcher, developer of educational materials, and teacher educator. For many years, she helped develop educational programs, textbooks, and digital learning tools at the Weizmann Institute of Science’s Science Teaching Department.
To those who knew her, Marcel was much more than the sum of her professional accomplishments. She was intelligent and deeply dedicated, full of energy, with a presence that was impossible to miss. The memorial dedicated to her at the Clore Garden of Science reads: “Her bright spirit, passion for science education, and devotion to her students continue to inspire us all.”
May her memory be a blessing.
היום אנו זוכרים גם את עמיתתנו וחברתנו, ד"ר מרסל פרייליך קפלון, שנרצחה על ידי מחבלים יחד עם בעלה דרור בביתם שבקיבוץ בארי ב-7 באוקטובר.
מרסל הקדישה את חייה לחינוך מדעי. היא הייתה מורה לכימיה, חוקרת, מפתחת חומרי למידה ומדריכת מורים, ובמשך שנים הייתה שותפה לפיתוח תוכניות, ספרי לימוד וכלים דיגיטליים במחלקה להוראת המדעים במכון ויצמן למדע.
עבור מי שהכירו אותה, מרסל הייתה הרבה יותר מסך העשייה המקצועית שלה. היא היתה אישה חכמה ומסורה, מלאה באנרגיה, עם נוכחות שאי אפשר היה לפספס. בפינת ההנצחה שהוקמה לזכרה בגן המדע ע"ש קלור נכתב: "אישיותה המאירה, תשוקתה לחינוך מדעי ומסירותה לתלמידיה ממשיכות להוות השראה לכולנו".
