Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible, and sustainable post-COVID-19 world
Disability inclusion is an essential condition to upholding human rights, sustainable development, and peace and security. It is also central to the promise of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to leave no one behind. The commitment to realizing the rights of persons with disabilities is not only a matter of justice; it is an investment in a common future.
The global crisis of COVID-19 is deepening pre-existing inequalities, exposing the extent of exclusion and highlighting that work on disability inclusion is imperative.
People with disabilities—one billion people— are one of the most excluded groups in our society and are among the hardest hit in this crisis in terms of fatalities.
Even under normal circumstances, persons with disabilities are less likely to access health care, education, employment and to participate in the community. An integrated approach is required to ensure that persons with disabilities are not left behind.
Disability inclusion will result in a COVID-19 response and recovery that better serves everyone, more fully suppressing the virus, as well as building back better. It will provide for more agile systems capable of responding to complex situations, reaching the furthest behind first.

AlManarah Ass. congratulates Paralympic swimmer Iyad Shalabi for the historical gold medal win in Tokyo. Iyad is 1st Arab Israeli medalist. In his 4th Games, 34-year-old from Shfaram wins 100m backstroke event on the first day of competitions.

The Israeli Tandem Cycling Championship with the riders of the CoVision project of the AlManarah Association was held in the Ben Shemen forest, near Jerusalem.

For the first time in Israel, Iyad Shelby, an Arab from Shfaram city with disabilities, wins a gold medal in the 50-meter backstroke and a bronze medal in the 100-meter backstroke at the European Paralympic swimming Championship. The Al-Manara Association congratulates Iyad and wishes him many achievements at the Tokyo Paralympic Games.

At AlManarah, we have been referring to our community as people with challenges, not people with disabilities. We are facing a very tough period due to corona virus, lock-down, and quarantine, but we are not backing away during this difficult time. This is another challenge, not a disability. At AlManarah, we are continuing our work, advocating and providing services for our community.

One of our current projects is a course in creative writing, and will be publishing short stories penned by individuals in our community, which will be compiled and published following its conclusion. We believe writing these stories might be a source of inspiration and passion for those in the course, and hope that others will feel the same once we've published them.

While these times may be dark for many, we believe there is a light at the end of this tunnel.
