🏵️🌿🌲Students in the Master’s program in Tourism and Hotel Management at Kinneret College took part in a unique in-depth field tour🗺️ focusing on tourism and international borders🚧, as part of the course Tourism and Globalization with Prof. Alon Gelbman. The tour focused on the case study of the Israel–Jordan border.
They visited Naharayim and the Old Gesher site, including crossing the security fence and reaching the historic bridges over the Jordan River, located just a few meters from the international border line with Jordan. During a meeting with the site’s CEO, Ms. Nirit Bagron, various topics were discussed that constitute attractions of border heritage tourism, such as the legendary hydroelectric power station of Pinhas Rutenberg, the story of Kibbutz Old Gesher in the shadow of the border, and other tourism initiatives, including the Rutenberg Restaurant, which is characterized by gourmet tasting experiences🥨🥪.

🧩 Creativity meets tourism innovation 🧩

In Dr Orit Unger's Innovation and Creativity in Tourism course, students explored LEGO® Serious Play as an experiential methodology for brainstorming and structured creative problem-solving.

Through hands-on modelling and metaphor-based reasoning, students addressed innovation challenges across diverse tourism contexts, translating abstract ideas into tangible insights.

The session highlighted the value of experiential and creative methods in generating new perspectives, fostering collaboration, and reframing real-world business challenges in the tourism and hospitality industry.

Learning by doing — and building — at its best. 🚀

🕍 Heritage, tourism, and management challenges – a field visit to Magdala!
Students in the MA program, as part of the Managing Religious Heritage Tourism course led by Dr. Hila Zaban, explored the unique archaeological site of Magdala – home to a first-century synagogue and managed by the Catholic Church, near the town of Migdal.
During the visit, students heard from Father Kelly, one of the site’s managing priests, about the site's significance to Christian communities worldwide and the day-to-day work with international pilgrimage tourism. They also met with Mr. Maroun Edward-Issa, General Manager of the on-site hotel, who shared insights into the opportunities and challenges of managing a hospitality facility within a religious heritage complex serving a wide range of visitors – from pilgrims to local tourists.
📚 A learning experience where heritage, management, and culture meet – this is where academia comes to life.
