Ki Tetzei - this week's Torah portion opens with the following words:
“When thou goest forth to battle against thine enemies”
Once, the followers of a great Chassidic Rabbi, R’ Naftali of Ropsh*tz came to him to ask for advice on how to deal with the Yetzer Hara, the evil inclination.
“Rabbi, how do we stop the Yetzer Hara from chasing after us and steering us away from the right path?”
Answered the Rebbe:
“If you’re worried about the Yetzer Hara chasing after you, first start by making sure that you’re not chasing after him!”

As we head into Shabbat, we have just started the 9 days of mourning which culminate in Tisha B'Av, on which we commemorate the destruction of the Holy Temples in Jerusalem and all the troubles and sorrow the Jewish people has endured in exile. This year, with the wounds of the passing of a Torah giant and a terrorist attack against Jews for being Jewish still open, we long more than ever for all the tragedies; the pains of exile to end.
"Those who mourn the destruction of the Temple will merit to see it rebuilt"
Let us hope and pray, and enhance our Torah and Mitzvah observance; so that we may see the permanent arrival of happiness and joy; coupled with the permanent departure of all troubles and sorrow.
Shabbat Shalom.

When you look at a human being, you see his hands working, his feet walking, his mouth talking. You don't see his heart, his brain, his lungs and kidneys. They work quietly, inside. But they are the essential organs of life.
The world, too, has hands and feet -- those who are making the news and effecting change. The heart, the inner organs, they are those who work quietly from the inside, those unnoticed. Those who do a simple act of kindness without knowing its reward.
Time - make the most of it.
