Can you be a seasoned entrepreneur and a student at the same time?

Just ask Chiamala Aravamudhan.

She ran a successful business in India for 10 years. But even with a decade of experience under her belt, she knew she wanted to sharpen her strategy skills. That drive brought her all the way to Jerusalem for our MedTech IMBA program.

Now, she’s trading the tech scene in India for a biotech startup internship right here in Israel. Here are 3 big things she’s learned along the way:

🔥 Chutzpah is real (and useful): In India, business favors compromise. In Israel, pushing back and healthy debate are part of the process. Chiamala says it forces you to stand your ground!

💡Idea vs. Scale: In India, the focus is heavily on immediate growth. In Israel, the magic starts with protecting the core patent and the idea first.

📊 Instant application: She’s already using frameworks from her Business Strategy class (like VRIN analysis) to vet every single new idea that comes her way.

Her advice to other founders thinking about an MBA? “You need to have a lot of self-awareness of what is right for the business. You need to find the tools to grow, and that might be an MBA.”

Shoutout to Chiamala for bringing her incredible experience to our community! (And a special nod to our Director of International Programs, Ruba, whom Chiamala named as her favorite Jerusalem ‘hidden gem’ for keeping everything running smoothly!) 🫶

📊 What does a career in the accounting world look like? What professional paths are open to graduates, and what is required to integrate into the leading organizations in the field?

At the spotlight day for accounting students at the Business School, which took place this week at the Mount Scopus campus, students met with representatives from some of the most prominent and influential companies and organizations in the economy as part of a career fair and professional panel. The event provided an opportunity to closely experience the world of accounting, learn about various career options, and build professional networks.

Among the participating organizations were KPMG, Deloitte, EY, PwC, BDO, Grant Thornton, the Israel Securities Authority, the Accountant General, and the Israel Tax Authority. The presence of these leading bodies on campus reflects the ongoing connection between the Hebrew University and key players in the business and public sectors, allowing students to gain exposure to top professional opportunities during their studies.

Thank you to all the companies and organizations that attended, shared their experience, and dedicated their time to meeting the students. Events like this demonstrate how the bridge between academia and the field helps prepare the next generation of leaders in the accounting world. ✨📈

Voting for “Miss Fix the Universe” is in full swing, and this is your chance to show your support and be a part of driving social change! 💥

The HUBS Aid initiative, led by Prof. Renana Peres, was established following October 7th with the mission of saving small businesses from collapse. Over the past year, the project focused specifically on women-owned businesses, operating in Jerusalem and Eilat (where about 80% of the supported businesses were owned by women!).

The vision moving forward is clear: to expand to the North (Kiryat Shmona and Tzfat) and build a national emergency response mechanism for small businesses.

Now, thanks to its tremendous success, the initiative is participating in the “Miss Fix the Universe” project: a prestigious public platform for women leading the charge for social justice. The HUBS Aid initiative is an inspiring example of how academic knowledge can be leveraged to create real-world impact.

We trust AI, but does AI trust us? 🤖🔍
The Hebrew University Business School extends its warmest congratulations to Dr. Yaniv Dover and Valeria Lerman (PhD Candidate in the Department of Marketing) on the acceptance of their paper for publication in the prestigious journal, Proceedings of the Royal Society.
While most of the world is preoccupied with how much humans can trust AI, Yaniv and Valeria’s research explores the exact opposite: how large language models evaluate and “trust” humans in contexts such as financial decisions, workplace relations, and recruitment.
What did they discover? The study reveals that while language models mirror humans by relying on indicators of capability, integrity, and benevolence, they are significantly more judgmental and rigid, taking a far less holistic approach. Furthermore, the models exhibit distinct demographic biases based on religion, age, and, in some cases, gender.
The study is currently generating widespread media buzz, receiving extensive coverage in leading global outlets, including features in the UK, Spain, Italy, China, and Pakistan. 🌍
In a world where AI systems are increasingly integrated into life-altering decision-making processes, this paper highlights the critical importance of understanding these dynamics before deploying these models in real-world scenarios.
Warmest congratulations to Yaniv and Valeria on the publication of this fascinating study and this incredible achievement! We are so proud of you! 👏🚀

How our financial decisions are influenced by financial literacy and behavioral biases 🎓🧠
Warm congratulations to our School Dean, Professor Orly Sade, on her fascinating new interview for “The Scholar” series in the Jerusalem Post, a joint initiative with the Canadian Friends of the Hebrew University.
As the first woman appointed as a Full Professor of Finance at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Professor Sade has dedicated her career to challenging conventions and breaking boundaries. In a conversation with acclaimed director Maor Zaguri, she shares her vision for the future of higher education and personal financial literacy.
Professor Sade explains how her research delves into the human psychology behind financial decision-making, such as her renowned study (with Prof. Dan Galai) on the “Ostrich Effect.”
During these unprecedented times, Professor Sade also highlights the school’s community impact. She explains how the Hebrew University Business School engages directly with the community, bridging classroom theory with real-world applications to meet today’s challenges: The HUBSAID project helped war-affected small businesses reinvent themselves; the Financial Literacy project boosted economic knowledge in high schools across Jerusalem and the Gaza envelope; Project Sagi supports wounded IDF veterans; and the Accounting Preparatory Program assists reservists. These are just a few of the initiatives driving meaningful change in Israel and abroad.
In the article, Professor Sade notes that the school’s diversity is one of its greatest strengths: operations at Mt. Scopus foster a unique harmony among students from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds. She is equally proud of the gender diversity within the school and among the doctoral students she has mentored, proving that representation is not just a goal, but a daily reality.
We take great pride in Professor Sade’s contributions to behavioral finance and her deep-seated commitment to social impact and gender equality. Link in first comment
