As a teacher, nothing compares to the moment a student realizes they aren’t just learning words—they’re gaining a new perspective on the world. Today I received a message from a Jason, a student of mine that reminded me why this journey is so powerful.

Three months ago Jason felt completely overwhelmed. He shared:

"I felt so out of my depth and confused in those very early lessons that there was a voice almost in my head saying 'run away'... Like, what are you doing? This is crazy, you're never going to get this."

But he didn't run. He leaned in. This week, while listening to a song by Dikla, the "puzzle" finally started coming together:

"I could see so much of what we've been doing... in these lyrics. This song makes more sense. It's almost like a puzzle, like a few more pieces revealed and soon I'll see the whole picture."

Learning a language as an adult is about more than just grammar; it’s about rewriting the stories we tell ourselves about what we can achieve. He opened up about his past struggles at school:

"From a very early age I fell behind and then I just accepted I was slower and maybe not as bright... I didn't really know what verbs and nouns and adjectives were. But these are things I'm beginning to look at and understand more."

Today, he isn't just "keeping up"—he is thriving and actually enjoying the challenge:

"I can almost feel the growth, like my brain... being physically reshaped. And I like that... I don't hear that voice anymore saying 'you can't' or 'panic, stop.'"

הדרך להתחיל עם מישהי בארץ במשך הרבה שנים הייתה המשפט הטיפשי הזה "אז מה? באה לפה הרבה?" במסיבות, מועדונים וכו'. אמנם זה לא סלנג המשפט הזה אבל התאים לי בול. היעל נחה לה לידינו, על החומה של הצוק במצפה רמון בכזו נונשלנטיות ושלווה שהייתי חייבת.

For years, the classic (and kind of silly) way to start a conversation with a girl in Israel was the line: “So… do you come here often?”-at parties, clubs, you name it. It’s not really slang, but it just felt right here.

A nubian ibex was resting right next to us, on the edge of the cliff in Mitzpe Ramon, with such calm, effortless ease-I simply had to use it.

המִימוּנה הוא
חג עממי של יהודים יוצאי עדות המזרח ובעיקר בולט אצל יהודים מיוצאי מרוקו, הנחוג במוצאי שביעי של פסח, באסרו חג (בישראל בכ"ב בניסן ובחוץ לארץ בכ"ג בניסן). מקור המנהג הוא ברכה לשנה חדשה לאחר הפסח, וסימוכין לחגיגת המימונה נמצאו החל מהמאה ה⁻18. מסורת החג נחוגה בישראל החל מ⁻1965. חגיגת המימונה כוללת פתיחת שולחן ועליו מטעמים, ביניהם מופלטה, ספינג' ומיני מתיקה. המסובים נוהגים ללבוש בגדים מסורתיים מפוארים לרוב ירוקים עם ניטים הזהים למלבושי המימונה של יהודי מרוקו, כגון קפטאן מרוקאי, גלימות רקומות ותרבושים צבעוניים, והוא כולל שירים, ברכות וריקודים. אצל יהודי פרס ישנם חילוקי מנהגים בנוגע למימונה, וכיום רוב יהודי פרס לא נוהגים בזה.

לא מדובר בעוד יום חג רגיל — זה היום שבו קרה אחד הרגעים הכי דרמטיים בהיסטוריה שלנו: קריעת ים סוף.

אחרי יציאת מצרים, פרעה התחרט (regretted) ורדף (chased) אחרי בני ישראל עד שהשיג אותם (reached them) מול הים. ברגע של מתח — הים נבקע (The sea split), העם עבר ביבשה (land), והמצרים טבעו (they drowned). זה היה רגע של הצלה וניצחון, ולכן בני ישראל אמרו אז את “שירת הים” מתוך תודה.

📍 זה בדיוק מה שאנחנו מציינים בשביעי של פסח.
